A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

This bike looks great as-is (and only 22k miles) and runs well, but I want to clean it up and take off weight. I.e., "make it mine." I've already replaced the stock bars for lower/lighter euro style & replaced the giant plastic stock speedo/tach assembly with smaller chrome dials.

Future projects include: possibly replacing the exhaust with a 4-2 side upsweep and putting on a solo seat and a shorter rear fender. Also replacing the plastic side panels with simpler painted aluminum panels.

Right now a mechanical issue is the choke -- the cable is stretched and I'd rather replace it with a plunger at carb-level rather than hook up another cable. I'd like to get the bars as clean as possible, with as few controls as possible.

Also need to take a look at the clutch, as it's getting difficult to pull and wants to slip sometimes.

Not trying to make this a cafe. More minimalist with a cleaner line and a monochrome color scheme.

Aesthetic and mechanical suggestions/input welcome!

You're right! and since it "runs well" enjoy as is.I know,I know.... different strokes for different folks.

Anyways it would be easy to rig up a gizmo to operate "choke" mechanism at carbs- only need "choke" for maybe two minutes. Drawback is that it would be difficult/dangerous to feather "choke" to keep revs from bouncing up.
A decent (i.e. not stretched, frayed ) clutch cable needs proper orientation to actuate easily and not slip-cable passes along frame tube next to left coil and then makes turn down between carb 2 and 3 on airbox side. clutch lever arm shoul be tilted inwards about 15 degrees in release spot for easy pull. How does yours look? sometimes PO's get creative at cable routing.
The 650 shaft setup does not appeal to everyone- have you ridden this thing much?
