DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Put the choke on as you ride to see if it pulls hard. If it does you need to richen it and if it runs worse you may need to lean it out. Pay attention to throttle position so you can tell what area needs what done. Better to run rich than lean.

I found two problems with my carbs, a incomplete seal between the top of the carbs and the cover on one of them, and the tuning, specifically at idle, being rather out in a bad attempt to compensate. This was a problem that somehow suddenly appeared and it is my fault for not picking up the original problem earlier. I actually had to replace one of the carb tops in order to make this problem go away, fortunately i have a spare set of carbs i could savage for spares.

But using the "maximum rev" technique, it turns out my bike likes the idle needle turned out 2.125 (2& 1/8th) from fully seated, even though my manual says to go from 1.5 turns out and go.from there.

I'm pretty sure the screws are set pretty lean from the factory for emissions requirements, so I suspect optimal will have no relevance to what's in the manual...

Hmmm okay you've twisted my arm, i'll give it some extra turns tomorrow, didnt get a chance today.

okay i took it out to 1.5 turns and its still doing it, pulling the choke on just makes it worse, plugs are black with a brown tip.

surely turning it in to under 1.2 turns would just be compensating for another problem?...

Hmmmm yeah that don't sound right, only that far out and the plugs are black? Sounds rich to me! Too much oil on the air filter not letting it breathe enough maybe?

I checked the plug gap and its fine, getting a nice bright white / blue spark, float levels are fine, its idling perfectly etc i tried recording it but you cant hear it on the video.

Could it be a carb diaphram or something?

Hmmm... I would think if a diaphragm isn't working right, it wouldn't lift enough which would mean it would flow less fuel and run lean... I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

Do you know what throttle position it runs rich at? Closed? Partially open? That will help work out what it is if it's carbs...

If i'm going up through the gears it will pop when i jump on the throttle probably between closed to 1/4 throttle

Hold on, I just realised... you were doing testing turning the choke on right? Maybe try a fresh pair of plugs that have no carbon build up whatsoever and see what they show you?

These plugs arnt that old, i gave them a wipe over with a rag and they came clean and they are giving a bright spark i will put my little video camera on and take the bike for a ride and see if i can get it on video.

Best pic i could get of the plugs with my phone.

Pic of side cover, still have so much to do on it, high up on the list is that seat! Who would of thought a puppy would chew the arse out of my seat right in the middle.

Okay i did some testing today, it coughs and splutters around 5000rpm in 4th & 5th gear, starts as soon as i get on the throttle, in 4th it will clear its throat and in 5th it will cough and splutter all the way through the rev range.

I wound the pilots in to just over 1 full turn to see if it made any difference, apart from getting more revs out of it the problem is still there.

Adding choke makes it worse, next on the list is plugging the vac line and running it on prime to see if there is any change.

Hmmmm me thinks I'd be starting a carby thread if I was you... I'm a tad all at sea right about now...

And why is your puppy riding your bike?

Is that what a P plate is for? :p

The little bitch was only afew months old when we got her, came out in the morning and the back yard had foam all over it.

Yeah time for a thread.

Hhahaha one of my cats used to love sitting on the seat of my bike if I had it in the back yard at the old house, she'd just sit there in the sun wishing she was a bikie chic... no chewin on the foam for her... haha

Good man Josh! I've subscribed so I can see who suggests what and to find out what we missed...

Well if its not one thing its another.. Went to take the big for a ride after some tinkering and it started to wind over and stopped, so i hit the button again and the starter relay will only give a loud CLICK now, screw driver across the terminals will make it fire up though.

I love this bike, but i hate it just as much!
