    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Looks like the carbs are going to have to come off again as these issues just wont go away and i cant find anyone with a working set of carbs.

Whats the best stuff to soak them in? Carb dip is non existent here and soaking them in petrol etc i dont think really does the best job.
 
I, my good man, are very serious!

The way to do it is to boil them, in lemon juice, then rinse with fresh hot boiling water.
but you have to totally disassemble them, as the orings etc. will not last.

Do a search for "carb lemon clean" and you will see many my friend! haha..

Scored a job tonight at Rays Outdoors so i can spend a little bit more money on the old girl once i start working. Will give the carb cleaner a go, not sure if i will go the lemon route or the yamaha cleaner, as the yamaha one looks like it does a great job.

Hey congrats on the job! I thought you were self employed? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else... either way nicely done :)

Just watch with the lemon is I believe it can discolour the alloy if left too long.

With the Yamalube, remember it stinks to buggery. If you think you've smelt something bad, you ain't seen nothin' yet...

If you choose to simmer it like I did, get a fan and use it to blow those fumes away from you and the house.
 
Yeah dont use lemon juice if you dont have to... :)

yeah i am self employed Pete but things are really slow and i've been trying to work for the supercheap group for a while, they own supercheapauto bcf and rays outdoors.

Whats the go with using the yamaha cleaner on a gastop stove? seeing as its flamable i know you watered it down but there is probably still some danger there?

Ok cool, and yeah I deal with the Supercheap group at work, albeit indirectly. In fact last time they did a big promotion I spent hours sitting in the office looking at monitoring screens while nothing went wrong... I did get to spend some time on here too seeing as there was nothing to do because it went so well... :rolleyes:

Any particular reason you were trying to work for them other than the staff discounts? ;)

Basically the only way for me to simmer the solution was to do it on the portable gas stove top. I figured as long as I didn't spill any it was good to go, and I was just ultra careful. If you're worried about it, just dip the parts and leave them overnight or something, you don't have to simmer them.

The main reason I simmered them was purely that there's no way I could leave them in it over night as I wouldn't be able to get back to it the next day to finish cleaning them out.
 
I have worked in spare parts before and all of my work experience is in the automotive industry and they need someone at there local store who actually knows something!

I think the heat would definately help with cleaning them, rang the Yamaha dealer today they dont keep it but can get it in for $22 a bottle but not till next week so might pop into a Yamaha dealer on saturday in sydney and see if they have any.

I have had the carbs apart so many times and they are always clean but i always re clean them, its getting really annoying!

Ok cool, that makes sense, you'll be the "go to" guy for all the noobs there then :) Should make a good impression and allow you to move up the ladder...

That price is pretty good, I think I paid about $28 up here but I can't remember now, and they happened to have one in stock which was pretty cool.

There's gotta be something funky with your carbs though, have you ever done a proper dip clean before? I can't remember if you have or not...
 
i have soaked them over night in some white spirts and petrol and poked and prodded them with the match stick with the piece of wire on the end of it, float levels are perfect, im wondering if the tap is the problem will take the bike for a run tomorrow and when the problem happens i'll kill it and drain the carbs to see what comes out.
 
Certainly could be... be interesting to see what colour the plugs are at that point too...
 
Bike is still doing it in prime so dont know what its problem is so i've decided to do a full tear down of the whole inlet system, starting with

*The airbox making sure there are no fine splits in it
*Full carb tear down and soak ( yet again )
*Doing away with the inlet rubbers completely and replacing them with a steel setup and rubber hose the same size as the original setup. I will be making these myself with some 5mm steel plate and some steel pipe ( just have to measure the carb ) and welding them together, i was either going to run with an o-ring or instead cut a flat piece of rubber out the same size and shape as the steel plate.

The joiner between the carb and the manifolds will be either some rubber tube or the blue silicon type stuff.

i would keep the inlet manifolds sizing exactly the same as the original one so not to effect the running of the bike so much.

What are your thoughts? I see this as eliminating any possible problems with the original setup and being a more fit and forget? Also it is a hell of alot cheaper than replacing them with factory units.

You're keen making your own intake boots but probably better than continuing with dodgy old ones....
 
Carbs are soaking couldnt boil them so i'll leave them overnight instead and wash them off in the morning didnt end up using the yamaha carb cleaner or the lemon juice, trying one of my detailing chemicals watered down instead.

Will get some pics tomorrow of the cleaned carbs.
 
I use alot of different stuff and its safe to use on all materials, if it does a good enough job i'll keep using it. $40 for 5litres.

Early morning post for me, havent been to bed yet been up the hospital with the girlfriend since midnight to be told in the end 'we dont know whats wrong with you so heres some tablets and go home'

Ok cool, I just was thinking discolouration, but if it's safe then good stuff and much cheaper!

Mate I hope your girlfriend's alright! I really hate that attitude, and spending time in hospitals. Did the tablets actually do anything?
