A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Woohoo!! My gasket set arrived today! Time to start putting it back together!

nah not yet, had the dentist and its to bloody cold out there to do it tonight, still waiting on the fuel tap to come from the states, dont want to run it with the stuffed fuel tap.

Soft! Hahaha but yeah it is bloody cold at the moment, can't believe how fast it got this cold actually, weird weather this year.

I've gotta get a fuel tap soon too now that you mention it... no rush though, it'll be ages before I actually get to put fuel in the tank and use it...

I've got **** lighting in my garage too 1 75w globe plus a work light and my project car takes up 95% of the garage.

Aaaah I feel ya pain on that one! One flouro which is in the wrong place, so I have two desktop lamps pointed at the workbench, and two cars in the garage so I get about 10 - 20% of the space which includes storing the 450...

Never mind, you'll have her back together in no time :D

Cool, got it, knew what I meant but couldn't for the life of me think what they're called  And of course I called the circlip the wrist pin... sheeesh... at least I don't claim to be a mechanic! :o[/QUOTE

Sounds like the old timers disease is kicking in .

Cheers , Simon . :p

anything i should know before i throw it all together? do i need a ring compressor to get the barrel back on or should i be able to do that by hand?

I got some moly lube to chuck on the cam lobes (as per the Clymer), and I just used my fingers as ring compressors.

I think the main need for the ring compressors is on the fours as there's too many to cope with, whereas on the twin there's only one up and one down...

Got a torque wrench?

Yeah i've got a torque wrench, my gaskets must be an old set as they contain asbestos which i didnt know until they arrived. I wanna go out and do it now but its 4c outside lol

So? Hahahahaha

I gotta go check this water leak... try and pull some more plaster out... yay for house ownership

the bikes at the front of the garage, i gotta have the roller door open to work on it, dont have any jobs on tomorrow so i'll get stuck into it, i checked the letter box 5 or 6 times today waiting for the final part! lol and then the postman went straight past our house.... i was sad lol

Ok the barrel is on, didnt need to compress the rings at all as the barrel is tapered at the bottom and they slide straight in.

Got the head half apart now to lap in the valves as they were rather dirty and the build up of soot was actually caked onto where the valve meets the head so a lapping in can only be a good thing.

I've got new valve stem oil seals and all i need now is some valve grinding paste unless there are any alternatives? I've heard some people use autosol to do it if the valves dont need much work?....

On a downside though, the postman just went straight past us again.... so gotta wait till next week for my tap.

I had my valves faced, then used Holts fine water mixed grinding compount to lap them in. Was a very quick and simple process to do with the lapping tool and I did a leak down test using kero which showed them all sealing perfectly.

Just remember your valves will be way out of adjustment after lapping.

Yeah i dont want to take much off them, just give them a nicer seal.

Hurry up tap!!!!! I WANT TO RIDE MY BIKE!!!!

You want to ride? Yeah me too... it'll be 10 years early next year... I wanna ride it this year!

Stuff that indeed! I gotta get it done soon... need a riding fix like you wouldn't believe!

I'm thinking I might find a refresher course so I can at least get some riding time in before it's finished... Morgan and Wacker do one $50 an hour minimum 2 hours and they provide a bike in that cost too, could be the way to go.
