sweet, sounds good with the open pipes....

not sure if you did it or want to do it, but look at doing the throttle tube change from your stock one, to using one from a 2004 Yamaha R1

(
Throttle tube for a 2004 R1 (4YR-26240-02-00) )

it will give you half the twist to get to WOT

your bike is going to be a monster once done....

i honestly dont need to hit wot faster, its so much faster with the different sprockets, and big bore kit,im thinking about block to block, and highway, and i think its going to be fine,im hitting 70 or so just playing around,i dont want tickets lol
its a totally different bike, 30 mph came and went with a blip of the throttle:eek:, that stock exhaust was so restrictive

it helps on highway drives, as your wrist is not twisted so far, and if you need to punch it, it don't take much...

plus I needed new grips anyways...:)

syncd carbs

syncd carbs

Well today my good buddy and new friend stopped by to help me sync the carbs, and make sure all was good with respect to running and idling and so on...

So about 1:15 Spyug pulls up in front of the house, with tools in hand, and dressed as though he was going to a night club, and not as though he was going to work on a bike,,,,I guess he thought I was going to do the work, and he was just going to point out and tell me what and how to do it....

Then again my bike being clean and all, neither one of us would end up getting dirty, at least not in syncing carbs....

So we hook up the IV bottle fill it up with gas, attach to the fuel line, block off the vacuum hose, hookup the carb tune gizmo, and start her up....

hit the button, she cranked over like 2 times and vrrrrrooooommmm she springs to life.

Looking at the carb tune I am almost dead on with the readings, but for chits and giggles we decided to fine tune even more, so bit by bit we get it just about 100% perfect, I think we hit 99%, and I think that is more than good enough for me.....adjust the idle a bit, loosened up the throttle cable a bit it was some what tight, and that was it.....

well,,,,we had lunch, some beer, and Slivovica, should have had more of that, but we can do that next time....

Spyug packed up the tools, the carb tune, and off he rode into the sunset...ok he went home...LOL

Thanks for the help Spyug, and the compliments on the bike, I did try my somewhat best to get her in the shape she is in....now if only that KAT didn't slip away from me.....

Overall it was a great afternoon, bike is running just right, by Monday I will have tires ordered, and I will firm up the deal to get the tins painted, I should be on the road before the end of the month.......

A few pictures to show off today, sorry forgot to take pics of the carb tune device, my bad....

but you will see my ball and rod, getting ready to pop those dents out of the pipes.....I hope....

this is a 1 inch ball, on a 3/8 steel rod,,,,I think the rod is too thick, I don't see how it's going to follow the bend of the pipe,,,,I think it should have been a thinner rod....

Ya I got a chuckle out of the "Listerine" bottle as well....LOL and we used a cofee filter to strain the gas before it went in......

Well it was a fine way to spend a Friday afternoon but the ride home was a biotch. I caught the get out of work traffic jams and it was 40 km of stop and go.I saw more than one guy run into the poor fart in front of him. I'd hate to do that on a daily basis.

I must say the restoration is every bit as good as the pictures show. It is extremely well done with superb attention to detail ( I love the new seat) and as GK mentioned it starts and runs effortlessly. It was tuned almost spot on before we took the wrench to it. It sound wonderful with the 4 into 1 too.

Being in a teaching frame of mind, however, I made him tweak it a bit to get the hang of the Carbtune. But quickly it was done and we got down to the serious business of noshing and pouring back some libation.

I'm predicting that in a week or so it will be done excepting for the tins and ready for its inaugral run around the block. That is going to be great fun.

Thanks for the great hospitality and the pleasure of meeting your lovely wife, sons and that friendly old puppy.

Now get that chain back on and the wheels off ready for the new rubber.

Cheers,
spyug

Sorry to hear you got caught in the traffic.....you could have stayed longer, heck dinner was not that far off....

was going to do the order on the tires today, but ran into a snag on their website, I sent them an email, hopefully it's just a typo, what I get in the end is as though I am ordering 2 front tires and no rear, so that kinda put me off on going through with the payment....email sent so I am just waiting for an answer back, probably Monday....

Well time to go and BBQ, friends will be arriving shortly, so no time for the bike this weekend.....it's taking a back seat for now.....

I will post more once I get more done...

wrong tires

wrong tires

Well,,,,,to my amazement, I get home to find the tires I ordered 2 days ago, were delivered today, WOW, I was so excited, talk about a fast turn around, paid and shipped and delivered and in my hands in like 48 hours....

But it was short lived

They sent me the wrong sizes....

110/70/17 and 130/70/17

They are supposed to be

110/90/16 and 130/90/17

What a bummer,,,,so I am delayed again, now they have to get these and ship me the correct ones....

Sometimes life just sucks.....

I could only use one of them, they sent me two 17 inch tires, one has to be 16.....

if they were the correct diameter, I might have considered it.....

Ah the old GS shuffle........one step forward, one step back. Damn, I thought you'd get her road tested this week. Hopefully they do have the right size somewhere in the warehouse as I know these 16" donuts are getting harder to find.

So do they pick up the return shipping on these or do you get stiffed for that? Maybe if you yell loud enough they'll let you keep them and will send you out another set :)

Fingers crossed for a speedy turn around.

Your pal,
spyug

Never fails, does it.....LOL

I thought I would be on the road this weekend also, at least up and down my street if nothing more.....

Yes they are covering all of it, actually FedEx is picking them up today, brought them to work with me and left them with our shipper, that way the pickup wouldn't be missed, and they have on order a new (correct) set already, if he gets them fast enough he is trying to get them to me by Friday, but I doubt this will happen, best case, next week Monday/Tuesday....

I was going to order a chain and sprockets, but don't have the cash now and thought they would eat the shipping cost, for the mistake they made on the tires...ohhh well so much for that idea.....

Getting so close, I can smell it in the air.......

how you making out on your sales, and the 550 all buttoned up and roadworthy ? certified ? come on now, we have a week of awesome weather coming our way.....

get too it.....

Cheers

.

Well I hope rubber turns up for you tomorrow. I wouldn't worry about sprockets right now. That chain looks good and the quick peek I had at the back sprocket says its good too. Fingers crossed for a midweek test ride.

The 550 is ready to go but my guy was too busy last week. I'm hoping tomorrow or tuesday for the cert.

Still no sale on the 750, just lots of wankers ****ing me off. I'm going to relist this week. I had a tough day again yesterday trying to do the fork seals.one went easy, one wouldn't go without a fight. You may have read, the damn damper rod bolt wouldn't come free and I had to drill it out. I was at all day yesterday and from 8 am 'til 2.00 today before it was all sorted and buttoned back up. I watched the Motogp and saddled up for my father's day ride. I missed the morning scoot with Bruce, his son and step sons. He wanted me to take the 550 but with no insurance and no registration, I declined. My luck is just not that good.

The solo ride was good, however, and I just got back in. With the valves adjusted and new oil in the forks she's a new bike. She just egged me on and its a wonder I didn't get a ticket. Honestly, she really felt different, peppier and more "planted". I had fun. If the 550 feels this much fun, I'm not going to do any more wrenching until winter and will ride my azz off.

Let us know when the rubber turns up.

Cheers ( I don't have any of your good stuff but I just had a father's day shot of "imported, not for the peasants" tequila to celebrate) Hope you had a great daddy's day too.

spyug

Lucky for me the one son is at home, no school for him so he can sign for FedEx.....at least I won't miss the delivery...

And then I need to get the rims off, and over to the guy to install the new rubber , and I can button it all up.....

and give her HELL........finally

I am still thinking about that 84 Zuk, might still pick it up just have not decided 100 percent....if he has it by the end of the week, it might be mine.....sorry but I had to tell the better half, she is not thrilled, but not a whole lot of resistance either.....so I might be OK...

Bummer on the seals, and the work it took, have not read the thread yet, but will get to it for sure....

Glad you had a chance to get out and ride, I am still waiting for the day...

Fathers day way not bad, got a nice bottle of White Owl Whiskey, it's clear, like a vodka, have not tried it yet, this was from the sons, and I talked to my dad, via Skype, so that was good as well, he was happy I got the motor in and running, even played the vid of the start up for him...

Well hope I get the rubber tomorrow and I can move forward.....

@denton550 - thanks for the words, I think she is a looker as well, lets just hope she rides just as good....

Cheers

Oh I didn't know your pop was still with us, that is good news and you are alucky sob. My dad's been gone 20+ years and I miss the old coot. He was a dirt bike racer and engine builder and he never let me have a bike. He would be pretty amazed to see me now I'm sure.

Good news that the boss is not putting up much of a fuss, I can see you turning that into some decent cash. I think we've created a monster.

Let us know when the rubber turns up.

Cheers,
Spyug

Yup, lucky me I still have both parents with me....they are in Europe right now, but come here for half the year each year, it was my dad who helped on the fix of the busted header bolt as well as the one on the stator cover, he was a great asset to the build.

Until bike is in hand I don't put anything past the wife, she can still say no, at the last minute...LOL

I will post for sure, once rubber is in hand...somehow that don't sound good....LOL

hopefully tomorrow, and I can get it on the rims just as quick maybe by tomorrow, if not by Tuesday....

Cheers

If the 84 doesn't work out, here is another for your collection.

I can't sneak anything by Mrs GSJim until the 650 is happy.

Jim

I feel your pain Jim.....

sweet.....just a bit of cleaning he says......:)

we all know that wouldn't cut it for me....:)

it's the 650 price tag that has me hesitant....not what I want to spend right now, the other was a good bargain at 200 bucks, that would be better, I could put a few into it and maybe sell it for a bit of a profit....
