The swinger looks fantastic! I would really like to detail out my shock, you said you had the spring bead blasted?

Yes Sir, just bead blasted. The spring off my shock was pretty scrubby looking. Painted it with a rattle can to get by for now. Sort of looking for a good replacement, just not real hard at the moment.

Here are a few peeks.

I am waiting for a few things from BB.

Been working on the Seadoo Sportster for my Dad, which hauls now. :D

So hot here, whew! the water is where the smart people go.

But, no, here are a few peeks.

I was hopeing for "Bamb" "Pow" ... but anyways....:o

Going to take some time on polishing the covers now. Adjust valves, new clutch, and ignition/stator possibly.

IMG_2209.jpg

Nerf balls are good. :D

IMG_2207.jpg

Chain will be set-up to accept the counter sprocket 12t to 15t, I think..

I think I can squeze it, just need to measure. If not, it will be 13t to 15t.

I know! 33mm VMs might be on the heavy side.

Just something to work with at the moment. Would like some 29s, but will see what the 33s will do. Slow roll possibly. Don't really expect instant power from the lack of velocity. Shoot!, may need them when I decide to go 1100...

IMG_2206.jpg

More of the Nerf balls. They work great.

One thing no one else has commented on but you might have clearance issues with a 12 tooth front sprocket. I don't think it will clear the swingarm. Have you tried stringing a chain yet? You may want to do that soon so if you have to order a bigger front sprocket, it won't be holding you up. Ray.

A few things on the brakes.

Rear Master and Front T.

For the rear signals, some shorties. Would have done the same for the front, but the headlight is pretty big. Wanted to have some distinction between the headlight and signals as much as possible.

well, the bike is a ?85 gs700ef (california version) from what i can tell given the gas tank, and labeling inside the left frame cover. Here are a few pictures of the bike before. She is in decent shape, but in need of a major makeover. I?m thinking about switching to the red original graphics, but have not fully decided yet.

do the bars touch the tank???

With the 45t rear it did dig into the buffer pretty hard with the 12t counter I believe. The buffer off the bike was original, and it had some deep grooves, although set up for the longest was 13t/43t.

Not much of a radius change with the 47t rear. I'll be looking at this closely. The 47t is very close with the chain case on the swingarm.

Still need to string the chain up.

If not, the 12t is not that much in cost, but would be fun with a 47t rear.

It will most likely run out the chain quickly though if ran for a good duration given the radius, but it would still be fun.

do the bars touch the tank???

In the before pics the clip-ons were more angled bars. The new Vortex clip-ons have much less of an angle.

But, yes the ones on the bike before were real close, enough to ping the tank if not careful, as seen because I didn't open up the bars. It would clear if adjusted correctly.

The Vortex clip-ons have good clearance, and feel comfortable.

I'm getting older..too................:p

Looking good, I like the rear sprocket. What are you doing with the seat?

Thanks Joe.

The seat? I printed a picture of yours, and handed it over to the wifey. :D

I like the Sargents look, but may do something a little different, new foam possibly, but not too dramatic.

Inch by inch, it moves forward. Still lots of polishing to do, gauges to rebuild, but here is the latest progress.

Getting the rear built up.

New tail light lens, screws/gaskets, cushions.

Top View.

Great stuff, I see you went with the Sport Demons. I ordered a set of tires for each bike so I went the budget route on the 700 and the 1100 got the Pirellis.

I have a fork seal leak and will probably tear them down this week, any advice? Iv'e never done it. I have the seals.

Here is looking back on the tail. There was a bracket that retained the canisters for the gas tank vent. Removing it should allow for a good deal of room in the trunk. The bracket did support the plastic in the rear, so a few flat brackets are on the "to-do-list" now. Something to secure a good tool kit anyways.

IMG_2257.jpg

All the cushions and hardware in the electrical mid-section of the bike were replaced.

IMG_2242.jpg

Here is a side view, in the space where the stock airbox was there is a bracket on the frame that the box attached. The plan for this area will be the location of the Innovate LMA3. Need to find a good plastic box still, and it should allow for good access. I thought about the trunk, but linited access, and lots of wires back and forth didn't seem too logical.

The Pirellis were not too bad, if compared to the radials that are mounted on bikes these days.

On the forks, if you do a full rebuild, be careful with the valves down in the bottom of the legs. They are easy to jack up if not careful.

The mid section needs a lot of work still.

IMG_2259-1.jpg

Dyna Coils. This is going to be tricky on the clearance between the coils and valve cover. At the moment they are just mocked up. Quiet a bit larger than the OEMs.

IMG_2258.jpg

New cushions on the gauge mounts, and in the process of rebuilding the gauges. The weak needles on the fuel and temp are crumbling. Not sure on the solution just yet. Also thinking of going with a billet dash of some sort. The plastic one is in okay shape, still debating on that one also.

On the ignition, figure will just see what this one does. Should be fine.

IMG_2254.jpg

Head light attached. It will be coming on and off after the wiring harness gets a good flogging though, and the bar controls are fixed in place.

A little more of an overall view from the front.

lookin great!!
love the bars, and i see you used the original tripple clamp, did you move the forks up farther?? i figured the vortex clip ons would have went on under the upper tripple clamp, since you got rid of the air/ anti dive device

whats the biggest tire i can stuff in mine??? 130 or 140??

Thanks Macmatic, lots more to come. ;)

cyclefvr2, thanks.

I have never had the OEM bars, so not sure on the measure height. But given the OEM bars mount up top, sort of clip-ons with risers basically. There are three bolt holes in the top clamp, the two closest to the bar clamps hosted a bolt for each side on the OEM bars I'm pretty sure, and the center bolt to bolt the plastic cover on. My guess is it is pretty close to the stock height.

You asked,

"whats the biggest tire i can stuff in mine??? 130 or 140?? "

A 700E or 83' 750E, S... Pretty sure at least the 83' 750s are the same.

I went with a 130, I know it works with no problem, but a 140 might be pushing it without modifications. The brake torque arm is the issue on clearance, and also it might require removing the chain case as well.

Really it comes down to 10mm in width, the 130 will perform the same. Not much difference.
