DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

2 spare motors: What to do?

The engine in my bike (#1) runs good, but there's a bad oil leak at the base, and a clunking that scares me.

I've got 2 spare motors.

Engine #2 came with my first parts bike. AKAIK it will run as is. I stole the condensors and clutch, but otherwise complete.

Engine #3 was in my $20 parts bike.
AKAIK: Used as a drag bike. Head has been polished, maybe ported. Rumour from a friend of the guy that used to own it of it being bored, 1100-1200cc's. Could be true, I dunno. Also rumour of a spun crank.

So I'm going to have to pull my motor anyway to fix the leak and find the periodic clunk. I was thinking of tearing down these motors and seeing what I have and what I can come up with.

Potentially, I could build a real firebreather!:-D

If the jugs and pistons are bored and in good shape on #3 then great. Maybe I can use them. I think for not a lot of money I could make something with some real power.

I can tinker with stuff, but I'm no mechanic. I'd need a lot of help from the smart guys on here that've done this before. I've got a manual, so there's a lot of help right there.

What do you think guys?

It's easy. You'll need your basic tools and some specialty tools like a rotor puller (which I'll send to you for free) and a clean area to do the work. Go slow, ask questions here, and have a great time. There's nothing better than hearing a motor you built fire off when you crank it over.

Really Hap? That's awesome.
I am definetly gonna do it. I'll just need that guidance.

I was chatting with a rider buddy and it so happens that he rode the bike that I just picked up for $20.

The engine IS bored, although he doesn't know to what. The head has had some work done to it. Porting, polishing.

He said it went like a bat outta hell! But that the crank is spun and it vibrated like a bugger.

I'm definitly going to swap out the pistons, jugs and head into my other spare motor and make a dragon out of it.

I hope that everything else is in good shape.:-D

SWEET!

If you have an aftermarket manual (haynes, etc.) you'd save yourself a lot of head-scratching if you could find a factory service manual, they're much more detailed and easier to understand regardless of experience. On a project of this size, it's well worth the money spent. Just wish I could find one for my GS750EX! That, and a starter clutch.....

Good luck, buy plenty of Fast Orange, and I hope your dragon breathes fire soon!

Thanks guys. I've got a factory manual, a scanned, pirated copy from an online thingy. I'd send out a copy to anyone that wants it by email. PM me.

I believe this is my 2000th post!
