The 2020 Isle of Man TT has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak, the island's chief minister has confirmed.
The number of confirmed cases across the United Kingdom surpassed 1000 in recent days, with the worldwide total now at over 140,000.
This has wreaked havoc on the sporting world, with numerous events from Formula 1, MotoGP, WEC all getting cancelled or postponed as a result.
Recently the Isle of Man government insisted preparations for TT 2020 were underway, with the virus not currently impacting the event - which was due to take place from 30 May to 13 June.
However, with the situation continuing and it thought only to worsen, the decision was taken on Monday evening to cancel TT 2020.
It is the first time since 2001 - during the foot and mouth disease outbreak - that the TT will not go ahead.
Laurence Skelly, Minister for Enterprise, commented: "The decision to cancel has not been taken lightly and all options including postponement and delaying the decision have been considered in detail.
"Representatives from the Isle of Man Government will now discuss the implications with all relevant businesses, stakeholders and individuals affected by this cancellation, which it recognises will be significant.

I think more people die from the TT than Coronavirus. Shame though, I always look forward to the british twits and the giant girl for the play by play.

Wow, I would think that they will hold this event at a later date if it is at all possible.

You know something's dangerous when IOM says, "That's too dangerous for us!"

Maybe they're thinking, "That's too expensive for us!"
They're not included into the UK National Health System, you have to buy your own insurance just like the US of A.
They have a lovely gem of an island there, but not much money.
They want to keep themselves pure, like Brigadoon.
They're now requiring anybody gets off a plane or boat, spends 14 days in quarantine, no ifs ands or buts!

I love Edin. Didn't know it was competing with Glasgow for crime. Been awhile since I spent time in either, though.

Interesting about the health insurance. I read the IOM emigration policies last fall. It did state anybody emigrating to IOM will have to provide their own insurance, that the island is not part of the NHS. I'll take your word for it.
I have no doubt it's full of new millionaires who are driving up land values, buying out natives.
Nice to have somebody on the forum who lives on IOM.

Some of them immigrate to the Island and then moan about the noise of the racing.
I ask you, some people, eh?
Even worse, at one point the moaning ninnies were positioned to halt the racing entirely within a few years. Just needed an extra shove...

LoL. I knew Glasgow would have to be in there somewhere. ;)

The TT race is iconic for sure but to me it's just plain stupid. I'd much rather watch MotoGP.

Moto gp bores me has done since they killed of the 500s the tt how ever never has bored me and never will hows it stupid ? We also have the nw200 dundrod to name

People die at the TT regularly. Some people have a morbid interest in such things but not I. And very few of the best racers will go there either (to race anyway.)

Not sure the best GP racers would outperform folks like the Dunlops or Guy Martin. It takes far more balls to race the TT.
