    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

18. F is really cold.
I will need to pay attention to the temps when I ride this winter.

Need to make a few repairs on my bike first.
Doesn't look like much though.

Sunday night/Monday morning I slid my bike into a embankment at the end of a T that I did not know was a T.
My own fault for going to fast for the rain and fog.
Couldn't see far but I wanted to get home before I got too wet.
Decided to take a short cut I had never tried before.
By the time I saw the stop sign and the embankment it was to late.
Could not brake enough for the rain and my reckless speed.

Probably didn't teach me to stop being a idiot though.:witless:

My bike is still being parked in front of my front door so this weekend I will push it in the house and fix what needs fixing.
I have a front end complete with brakes hanging in the bike barn all rebuilt this past summer.
I wanted to paint the lowers and calipers but that will wait.

I do not think the one on now is bad but better to take off, inspect, and rebuild then have a upper shaft stick while leaning a corner.
I cannot remember if I have a good headlight retaining ring though.
Other then that just minor scrapes on the ignition cover fuel tank and pipes.
Went in tires first.
A better inspection may show more damage but I am doubting it.
Guess I will see.

Certainly glad I got in my little five-mile trip to the drugstore last night. It's raining, snowing and sleeting now. Not the conditions to be on two wheels - at least not for me.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I, for one, am thankful I don't have to be out in this weather earning a living. And glad I finally got back on two wheels.

I've ridden to work when it was in the teens F without windshield. About a 5 mile commute. I was barely frozen when I got there.

I happen to be working at Prospect Creek, AK, where the record low temperature is -80F (-62C). It was -24 this morning. I've seen -65 dedrees F in Fairbanks, spring of 1988 or 1989. If someone tells you something like "Below -20 it doesn't make any difference", what they mean is "I've never been in extreme cold, and I don't know what I'm talking about". Each degree colder is worse. At about -45, the seat foam in your truck is hard, and you hit yout head on the roof. -40, and it takes a few miles to round out the bottoms of your tires so they stop thumpimg and shaking. -60, and you better keep it moving so the trans and dif oil doesn't freeze. Anywhere below -40, stationary engines like welding machines, generators, compressors, etc. are likeely to puke all their oil out and seize when the breathers ice up. Working today, in fact. Just another day ending in "Y".

At one time I would have envied you; not now though, fingertip and toe circulatory age-related problems have seen to that. I prefer to stay warm.
 
I remember on ski trips the driver taking a gas flame heater to the underside of the bus - I think the steering was frozen.

Except for the cold, skiing was great. I still dream about it. I gave it up a few years after I got my first bike.
