A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

4-1 w/stock air box?

Glad its running better. Do some 1/3, full, and then minimal throttle chop tests and see what the plugs say. Don't rush it. Take your time.

To be perfectly honest, if that pipe flows decently and with the airbox lid removed, my experience says that just 1 position richer on the jet needles isn't enough. It is possible, but I just want to mention it so you test and be positive. At 1/3 throttle for the needles. The plugs won't lie if you did an entire tune/jet job correctly and test correctly.
Most of us spend the most time riding on the jet needle and it must be right.

Will do.. I feel it could be a touch better in the mid range, but alot smoother than before. Did a long ride yesterday and kept up all day with the other two bikes, just cruising though, but comfortably. I couldn't do that prior. Should I try the pods as well? ( they are sitting on my work bench), or am I on the right path with needle hight/mains/tuning. No plans to get a jet kit or change pilot jets...thanks again for your help.

The pods, jetted correctly, will allow a little more power around 6500 rpm to approx' redline. You'll have to change the jet needle e-clip to the richest (bottom) position for sure then. If you like the 3/4 to full throttle performance now and have decent plug reads, then the pods will lean you out enough that you'll also have to richen the mains further. Also, the pilot circuit will need richening and if richer pilot fuel screw adjustments aren't enough, then you'll need a 17.5 pilot jet. Also, removing the two floatbowl vent lines, pods OR filter top removed, is necesssary.

Picked up a non running '77 GS550. Cleaned carbs and re installed w/o air box for now. Have some pods. The main jets are 80 and I have the clip set in the middle. It will start and idle but when I blip the throttle it dies and is hard to start afterward. Is there ANYPLACE to find out how to tune a vm22? I can find stuff on the 26 and up but nothing on the 22. Thanks, Slapz
