DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

4 to 2 Exhaust for '81 GS850GL

I have almost got my bike road ready. Given just a bit of time I could probably have her up and on the street this weekend (we'll assume the tires arrive tomorrow).

I am going to have to replace the exhaust sometime this winter. The 22-year old original equipment has had it.

I've spent hours looking for a 4 to 2 set with little luck. I've seen that Jardine has a 4 to 1 that will let me keep the centerstand and won't require removal for an oil change. But I like the look of the 4 to 2.

I'll have to get the full exhaust system. I'd like to get rid of the pre-muffler assemly (mine leaks at the header connection).

As I said, I've spent hours looking for something. This does't mean I've performed the smartest searches. I've looked in the forums here as well (I'm trying to avoid getting the "Use the search feature" post that I see here and there.)

Questions:

- Can someone recommend an aftermarket 4 to 2 for a 1981 GS850 GL.

- If not, should I go with the Jardine 4 to 1?

I'm not concerned about the benefit of the weight loss of a 4 to 1 vs 4 to 2 (I weigh 320, down from 370 -- this will improve pickup more than the difference in exhaust weight, centerstand weight, faring weight , fuzzy dice weight, etc). I won't notice if the 4 to 1 gives me more get-up-and-go due to the way it interacts with the engine. (I'm a grumpy old man and want the bike to have pipes on both sides -- unless it costs a fortune -- I'm a CHEAP grumpy old man.)

I am not able to offer any help but if you do find a solution, let us know. I will eventually need to do something on my 82 850L.

I've never see an aftermarket 4-2, not that that means anything, but most folks replace with a 4-1, keep your eye on E-Bay for someone parting out a stock 4-2, I have a V&H 4-1 and still use centerstand and can change oil etc.
