    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I want to replace the old fork springs with progressive spring.I have the air valve on top with a clip that holds the spring in.I have not done it yet but the manual says to push down on the spring stopper and remove the snap ring.My question is...how easy is it to remove the snap ring and what you used to remove it,plus does it have the holes for snap ring pliers to fit in or do ya just fish it out of there with a screwdriver? Please help, this is the begining of my winter upgrades. Thanks in advance!
 
I think mine screw off, but I have the G model and forks are one big difference between them.

of you have the snap ring pliers it shouldn't be too hard

the pressure on mine wasn't all that strong I but be sure the front wheel is off the ground to relieve any compression

Looking at a parts breakdown or clymers manual I cant tell what the clip looks like.It doesnt look like it has the places to use ring pliers on.
 
If your fork is anything like the stock 700 fork the ring has no holes for snap ring pliers. You simply push down on the cap and get a small screwdriver up under the ring and slide it around to get the ring out of its groove.

they're not snap rings, they're lock wires. FYI. use a phillips screw driver in the center of the cap, push down and pry the lock wire out. let the cap out slowly or it will spring out into no wheres. so will the lock wire when you pry it out, so be careful with that too. and you've all the weight off of the front wheel, right?

In the center of the cap is my air valve stem.Do i need to remove it?Would a small socket and an extension be ok to put around the air valve,then push down.Do the new springs stick out above the top of the fork or will I be able to put the cap and lock wire back on without too much force?My springs were back ordered and will be in this weekend and yes I do have the front of the bike off the ground and stable.
 
sorry I wasn't much help earlier, the socket around it sounds good. it might be a little unstable tho? maybe use an extension? or just remove it altogether and put a new oring on. mine was old and flat and wouldn't reseal.

Also when you are trying to get that cap out, loosen the pinch bolt in the top yoke. Makes it a lot easier.

Thanks guys, I know the progessive springs will make a world of difference in my bike.
