750T--Valve Cover Adjustment with Pics

I have learned one thing about these screw adjustable rockers, keep some new spares on hand. They do get tight on threads and will need to be replace at times. Think I have a bout 4 spares of the nut and screw. Had to replace one this last time. Thought I could free one up, just buggers the threads. Besides the new ones are fairly cheap. Thing is, it would not prevent you from riding that day or the next waiting on the parts.

I don't wanna have to do anything I don't need to...trust me, this little job took some effort on my part. I had a friend help me and now I understand the process and can breakdown the components to get to the valve cover.

Real eye-opener...and I replaced the vacuum line and put a new fuel filter in there! She is PURRING NICELY!

Now I'll need to do something about the throttle because when I do WOT, she delays in REVS. This trips me out because I was totally reluctant to do this on my first bike! It would have put me on my a$$ if I did that.

Loosening both bolts and then adjusting the tappet so they are even and then doing the shimming worked out GREAT! .(005 is where I want to be thanks to Steve for his guidance!!!)

I'll be scheduling a ride soon but right now gotta do some chores/errands.

Had me a Chorizo burrito and a cup of coffee this am to get things going.

And here's a day pic of my uncovered valves.

I am totally satisfied with the advice from Steve (closer to .005). Dude you rock man!

It's pretty cold atm but I will ride...oh man am I gonna go for a ride!

Been there on my GSXR750. Same part numbers I believe.

Make sure you torque those little nuts too. Seen a few come loose on customers that did their own valve adjustment.

You won't believe how much damage that little nut and adjuster will do inside a motor!!!!

Today's ride...

Today's ride...

Headed to Cloud Croft for a quick ride...it's flippin' cold today so this ride was cut a bit short. She's running FINE! (I like my new mirrors)

My poor baby! I forgot to check the weather yesterday (dumb me) and my "T" is just looking at me as if to say, "Why?"

A little too late but wanted to chime in to suggest adjusting these valves using two feeler gauges at the same time. Doing one at a time will allow the rocker to tilt and edge load the cam. Honda sent out a service bulletin with this instruction back in the day for their V4 engine bikes, but the info is applicable for any engine using forked rockers.

It was suggested to use two feeler gauges/shim gauges two at time and that's exactly what I did...thanks for sharing your knowledge...you GSR dudes are AWESOME!

I loosened both bolts then tightened the tappet till it made contact, then opened it up just a tad to allow for the .005 to slide in. Then I proceeded to do the same with the other side making sure the rocker arm was as balanced as can be. I kept the .005 gauge in there while adjusting the other...this worked out great!

I also did each lobe individually...turned the cam until the highest point was perpendicular to the rocker arm. This worked great and I'm happy with the results.

Red did you re synch the carbs after the valve adjust? You will run even better if you do.
That last photo is worse than leave a dog out in the cold... Come on now!!!!

No, I didn't mess with the carbs. I do think I need to adjust the throttle cable though...it's late reacting to WOT.

Trust me...I felt like CRAP leaving my baby out in the elements. I normally keep her in my apartment as before--park it right next to my fold-able trailer.

Yeah do the throttle and a resynch- you'll be happy you did.
I know I know just giving your grief- those storms came quick. Suzi's can take it.

When the weather warms up and the Thanksgiving holiday is over, I will re-engage. I will park her in my apartment while I am in LA.

Yes, please give me a hard time for not looking out for my baby. She is one companion I do not want to ruin my relationship with.

Well, she is inside now...thawing off (a little) and I feel better.

I'll put a plastic liner between the wheels in case she leaks.
