    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

77-8? Timing Advance...more Advance?

any of you guys with adjustable timing, electric or points, run more advance then originally set? i run only premium 93 octane fuel and when i put my Dyna S on and started it the first time, it really didn't sound any different when i adjusted the plate. I have been riding a month now by setting the timing with my ear with no problems.

original timing is like 17 at 1500 RPM...according to the timing marks. any of you run it higher for performance reasons?

All advancing the timing beyond specs will do for you is to make the bike hard to start, cause a piston knock, and decrease your low to mid range acceleration. Been there, done that.......undone that. :-)

mmm...Earl it varies. yes starting can be tougher, but knock can be avoided by higher octane. like i said when i was adjusting my Dyna S, both ways, i didn't hear any knocking.

i'm gonna try and get a timing gun this weekend from our formula car stash, and see where i have my timing at now. its somewhere in the middle of the Dyna adjusters...it seems to run fine.

There will not usually be any knock with a degree or two of advance, higher octane and the engine running with the bike sitting on the centerstand. As soon as you take it out on the road and load it, its going to rattle/knock and octane rating will not help. I suspect you will get considerable knock at medium speed, 4th or 5th gear and full throttle application. It also will run hotter, be harder to start and gas milage will decrease. Been there, done that, undone that. :-) :-) But, be my guest. :-) :-)
