    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

77 GS400 Tank

Restoring a 77 GS 400 to a café style bike and wondering if any other of the GS model gas tanks will fit.

no other models fit...i have a NIB one though if you are interested...
 
sorry new at this but what is NIB? also are any close with small modifications?

Anything's possible with a grinder and a welder ;) (just bound to be quite a bit of work).


Check out www.airtech-streamlining.com for fiberglass tanks, or try to make a fiblerglass cover for your OEM tank. I know of a guy on www.bayarearidersforum.com who hand laid a carbon-fiber gas tank for his SV650 to make it look like an Aprilia. The sky's the limit, if you've got time and patience. Fiberglass is cheap, and you can actually make a functional gas tank out of it. Not sure the cost on carbon-fiber sheets, though - but it lays pretty much the same way.

careful with fiberglass or carbon fiber tanks

Heaven forbid, but if you get in an accident, fiberglass doesn't dent like a steel tank, it cracks and splinters
 
Thanks for the NIB but I think I need something I can cut up, have a scratch and dent?

I have been told 2 things about fiberglass,
1. not street legal
2. American gas will slowly eat the epoxy used in the fiberglass due to the high concentration of alcohol in the gas.


Know anybody in the Denver aera that is a good cut and grind guy?
 
Also while I'm thinking about it, is there a comprehensive list of parts from other bikes that will fit the GS400. Just a thought it would help tremendously on giving the bike the look I'm going for.

Don't know about not being street legal - lotsa Triumphs come stock with plastic tanks....
 
Nix the FG tank...E10 will eat it....huge problem in the marine industry.
 
Is there an epoxy that the E10 will not effect? I need to know befor spring.......:shock:
