    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

78 GS1000 wheels,odd

So me 78 GS1000C came with a set of alloy wheels instead of wires.They are the same 1.85x19 front and 2.15x18 rear as stock so they are not E wheels.Seem to be the original wheels to,a Canadian variation?

Are these narrow or what!How did the PO get a 130 on the back???
I'm happy with these wheels but curious how these got on the the bike.

Came with the singe disc braking set up.Got all the stuff to go twin.

fits '80 models as well.
 
The 550/750E uses that size wheel. Simple bolt on to a 1000, although with a 550 wheel the bearings need to be changed.

Considering the wheel width, I recommend limiting tire width to 120.
 
A lot of guys that production raced the GS1000 back in the day put an 18" 750 rear wheel on because there wasn't a great tire selection back then. That's why the "S" came with the 18". For some reason the wire wheel models had an 18" rear, probably just what Suzuki had on the shelf at the time or maybe to save a little more weight.

Take a wheel off a Cooley for a C?Possible but likely?

This sounds more likely.Yes a 120 is the largest going on.

Not complaining about these.I like Suzuki "star" wheels better than wires.Happy to be in this minority opinion.

More likely on the shelf deal with the C 18.
OK they may be 750 wheels.Seems odd to me still that the other side of the frront wheel had a stock plastic cover on it.Someone went to a lot of trouble to do that IMHO.The 750E wheels are 2 disc as well.BTW who at Suzuki though that 1 disc is enough to stop a 750 let alone a 550lbs 1000:hand:
 
Funny thing.. My 78 GS1000E has the same 18" rear wheel and a dual disk 19" up front
 
Not all the cast wheel 750s had dual disc at first...And the 550 had single front disc for a much longer period (maybe for always...don't know the 550s that well..I do k ow the L had single front disc it's whole run)

Hmmmmm...that would make sense.now that I think on it the rear bearings are changed and nice.Fronts are shot.The 1000 front bearing would fit this wheel,right?

Didn't have to be taken off a Cooley. I just knew the 1000S used an 18" wheel.

Remember this pic in the OP?Took a look at the rubber wire wheel strip.Sure enough it has the marks of spokes on it.Why even put it on a alloy wheel?Nice thing for me is it tells me it started life with a set of wires.Set of 550 wheels is my best guess was to what these are.Would explain new rear bearings in the rear and old ones in the front.The right front wheel cover as well.Thanks for the input!

The 650G and E both came with dual disks, but the 650GL only had a single disk. Same size wheel.
