    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Nope not it.
The build continues but I need to take care of the wifey.
The build will continue next week. In earnest.
I need to get this thing done in about a month or so.

At 41 years old with arthritis, lying on the floor is NOT an option. That's why I built the bike table.

Got the clutch pulled out and I'm replacing the bearings. I bought new clutch springs but found some bearing play on the countershaft. Hoping that fixes it.
Maybe after that I'll change my paint color, or change the speedo setup or put on some stainless steel brake lines. Not sure really. Without the heated shop, not much gets done unless its close to freezing.
 
Well, the wife is feeling better so I had some time to work on the bike tonight after work.
I decided to pull the rear wheel and swing arm.

Brake shoes didn't look too bad but will get replaced anyway.

Brake drum looks OK but has a bad ridge at the edge. Anybody ever just smooth that level or must I get it turned?

The sprocket isn't the worst I've seen but I plan on replacing both and the chain together.

Onto the shocks. The right one wouldn't even pry off. I had to remove the shock and leave the rubber bushing on. For some reason part of the stud was mushroomed.

I used a file to smooth it down.

A very LONG socket extension works good to drive the bolt out.

Anyone know how to remove the swingarm bearings? I can easily remove the inner part but the outer part and rollers stay there.

Tomorrow I plan on removing the front end from the bike and doing some cutting on the frame to get it ready for paint / powder or chrome.

I don't think there are too many people in Edmonton working on their bikes this week in unheated garages.

If you are interested in putting a furnace in your garage let me know. I have one that I will sell you for a very good price this spring.

Wish I had a garage at my house. Glad the shop isn't far away.

You've got that bike pretty tore down. Almost have to start putting things back together.

Are your frame mods you speak of changing it a lot or just cleaning up some unused tabs?
 
Well good job so far, in almost 3 weeks, your down to the frame only....

soon the real fun begins... :-)

Just getting rid of a lot of unused tabs.

And yah... this garage is getting torn down this spring and a 3 car built in its place. The last bike I built (a 1980 Honda Nighthawk 450) was done outside the condo I lived at.
I LOVE my heated garage.

Excellent job you are doing there sir and kudos on the pictoral record. Very entertaining. I'm not sure about your membership in this esteemed group,however, you're letting down the team somewhat since your man cave is just too clean, tidy and orderly.A little anal are we?:)

I wish mine was like that but everytime I try and tidy up, someone ( as in grown son who won't leave home.....well he did leave home then came back :() messes it up again. Right now there is nothing getting rebuilt this season as there is just no room to manouver.

Well keep up the good work. With your project and Mr. Gatekeeper's, Mr. Svsooke's, Mr. Pete's and a few others I think I can live vicariously until spring.

I used a long shanked flat head screw driver and a hammer and knocked out one side. Dropped the spacers out and then knocked out the other side. I put the swing arm in a vice wrapped in shop rags so I did not damage the paint job and bam. One of the bearings came out whole the other one blew to pieces then it took a little more knocking to get the remaining bearing casing out. Hope that helps.

I am bit anal about keeping the garage tidy. I hate to work in a mess. I was dusting my toolboxes and welders one day when the wife walked in and asked me when was the last time I dusted in the house (never).

It really has gotten pretty nasty out there sometimes when I am in the middle of a big project but I always try to clean it up before going into the house at the end of the night.
It's always nice to walk into a clean area the next day to start again.

I think every nut and bolt on this bike seems to have 33 years worth of rust or grease on them.

I didn't know that the head tube bearings were just loose.
I found that out when the dry ones on the bottom fell out.

But beer is fuel for the body!
I actually don't drink much except when I am in the garage.
That Snap on tool box built into the work bench is actually a beer fridge I made to look like a tool box.

Your place is so clean, it almost looks like you didn't do anything.... I am jealous

I like beer, but not so much in the winter, more during the summer, but generally I like my Crown Royal, goes good anytime, even when wrenching in the cool garage during the winter months....and a nice cigar at the end of the evening....


Hey Bruce....I just noticed, you need to paint your mobile engine stand and your bike table green,,,,,,to match the rest of your decor............
