A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hello guys after some words of some words of wisdom again.yesterday took bike out about 500 miles after head strip and rebuild new base and head gasket and all the usual checked shim clearances all good. Gave it good ride out after some hard acceleration on the roll off noticed loads of white smoke which disappeared under acceleration again any thoughts thanks in advance

Are you saying that you have driven it about for 500 miles with no smoke (running it in)? - and after a run in time you pushed it a bit and then and only then white smoke came out under deceleration ?
Was this at the start (when engine warming up) ?
Did it occur when the engine was warm ?

Just a few thoughs to help diagnosis

Did you measure the valve stem to valve guide clearance? Did you put new valve stem oil seals on? Smoke on deceleration is usually an indicator of leaks at valve stem oil seals and/or worn guides.

Valve stems, you din mench work on those.
Not so expensive to replace the stem seals, machine shop work needed for valve guide replacement.
This is one of those: "as long as your doing this you might as well do that" kinda jobs.
Total overhaul of the valve system.

What work was done on the rebuild? Seal replacement, rings?
Hello guys, thanks for the replies in answer to uk jules it was after riding 4 about 1hr,at a good pace then dropped it down a gear and accelerated hard spluttered a bit and off she flew let off throttle plumes of bluey White smoke.in answer to 2bracing didn't measure valve stem to guide clearance but did valve stem seals.thanks to buffalo bill and stet racer the work done was valve stem oil seals head skimmed valves lapped in new head gasket and base gasket valve timing shims checked new petrol tap, fuel pipe, new condensers and points air box sealed with k&n in standard air box and a 4-1 of unknown origin. Update bin out tonight and she ran perfectly forgot 2 mention she is using oil though about 500 ml every 500 miles any thoughts.

Maybe the rings aint set yet?
I only did one ring job on a 550 and did a lot of up and down the throttle, up and down country roads for a couple tanks of gas, (that's only 180 miles for a 550).
Never saw a bit of oil smoke.

My first thought was the rings, but he doesn't say he replaced the rings.

At this point it is going to be either your rings or maybe the head gasket did not seal correctly and let go which is what I suspect since it did not smoke until after you road for awhile But you still should have put a fresh hone and rings.
