A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

79 GS425 no power to headlight

Hokano12

Headlight all of a sudden went out today. Every other light on the bike works but for some reason I’m getting no power to the headlight. I’ve checked the wiring diagram and cannot figure out where the headlight would be getting its power from. This is a gs425 so there is only 1 main fuse.

Like I said before, all other lights work, starter works, and bike runs but no headlight. Bench tested the headlight and it works. Tried tracking down with my volt meter but am getting stumped! Here’s a link to the diagram which is identical to the diagram I have in my Suzuki factory manual.

Any help appreciated thank you!

Go to the headlight supply plug.
Check for continuity between the B/W pin and ground. If it's open you have a ground issue.
Check for 12V at the white pin on Lo beam and 12V at the yellow pin on Hi beam.
If there is supply to neither the move on to the dimmer switch and see if it is getting supply from the yellow input to the light switch itself.

Issue ended up being a bad jumper within the dimmer switch. Power comes in through the gray wire then a small yellow wire with white tracer brings power over to the white and yellow wires. There was voltage coming to the gray but not over to the yellow and white. Had to re solder the connection and now I have a light again! Thanks Brendan

Result :)
In fairness to the builders, they can't have imagined a forty year plus life for their products.
