    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

79 gs750 oil pressure light

Just bought the bike. Before first oil change, oil pressure light would only turn on when idle was below 1500rpm. After oil change, light stays on always. I put the recommended weight and amount stamped on block. The previous owner put on an oil cooler so i assume that the bike needs more oil. however i put more in and the light won't go out. Any recommendations?

ok, so i removed the oil cooler to see if it helped the pressure since cooler was mounted so high, i figured the pressure wasn't high enough to pump through cooler. still no luck.
 
ok im going to quote my manual to the letter

"If the switch is functioning normally, when the engine is stopped and the switch is turned on the oil pressure indicator light comes on and
goes out immediately when the engine starts. This indicates that the oil pump is delivering enough oil to the engine.
Two possibilities must be taken into consideration
when the switch and light do not operate as stated above. One is that the switch is faulty due to an open-circuit or grounding
(this can be checked with the circuit tester). The other is a mechanical malfunction-an inability of the switch to respond to the
applied pressure which can be checked by measuring the oil pressure when the engine is running. If the pressure is low, the oil pump
is malfunctioning; if high, the switch is mechanically defective and must be replaced."

Inspect, clean, and verify the oil pressure switch is operating properly. These are low pressure systems so it shouldn't take that much pressure to deactivate the oil pressure light.

Oil light dilemma

Oil light dilemma

My 82 has similar problem, but I get an intermittent flickering of the oil light while driving anywhere between 45-60 mph. If I downshift and the rpm's go up it usually goes away. It was mentioned in this thread to check the oil pressure; what's the best way to do this. I too wan't to decipher if its' the switch or pump. The bike has 41K miles and I have been giving it much TLC; it's actually running very well outside a little smoke at start up.
