    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

79 Suzuki GS1000e Broken Shock stud

Today project I managed to shear off the top Stud on the left rear side removing the sissy bar.
This appears to be a press fit, but before I over think this thought I would ask the questions.

My 1st impression is a BFG and a wham, but tried this on cars with less than reliable results.
Do I need something like wheel stud tool, guess I would have to rent one?


1[SUP]st[/SUP] question, has any one replaced the stuff before and how did they do it?
2nd question does anyone know what size the study is or the Suzuki part Number?


Everything is off so it is very accessible :>)
Looking for a fast and easy fix, if such a thing is possible

the right side is welded the left does not show any welding seems to be pressed not sure why
any way the left side that is broken does not appear to be welded

only have a propane torch and grinder cut off wheel and arc welder

maybe i tray a deep socket and big C clamp.
Figured someone over the years had run into this before ?

found a July thread he drilled it out and weld a new M12 bolt in, unless someone has a better idea, not enough threads to re thread.
guess i do this the hard way measure the good one and see if i can find an M12 shock stud ?

yea thinking about it next time out to the garage
one thread 2007 -2009 seemed to indicate the thread is a m12x 1.25?

found 3 more threads with stud issues one they re threaded what was left mine (lloked at this early am) are short But there is about 3/8 " maybe just maybe run a die over it
but too short for the sissy bar found a Shock extender m12x1 part does not say what thread other then M12 this looks promising Allstar Performance ALL60096 Steel Shock Extension, 1" found out this is m12x1.0


if i have to drill it out this looks promising
m12 again but looks like the tread is 1.75 ?

going to see if i can find the allstar part locally after my morning service calls
does any one have any knowledge of these parts ?

I pulled the lower shock bolt and it matches the top thread see what thread this is at the hardware store
looking like a plan c find a m12 sleeve and insert longer threads

OK as expected way over thinking, or my guardian angle said let make you day, was going to cut it off, drill, tap and insert a stud.
Decided instead to get a die and chased the threads bought some hardware including narrow nuts and thread locker.

Everything fit only had to remove all washers on the left side and add 1 extra on the left side, everything thing fitted with the narrow nut and had atleast 4 threads mre then half the nut plus locktite

Went for a ride and every thing was fine really need to get rid of the air Forks every time i forget to add air roads down here are not very smooth
