    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

But seriously those diagonal bars are just taped in place atm, not real sure where the seat will end up.

Tread lightly. Most people around here browbeat you and shun you from thinking outside the box. Don't you know you have to be an engineer to try to do something like that. Good luck and hope it works for you the way you plan.

After seeing this, you should hope it never runs. What kind of engineer did you say you were?
 
All I can say is good luck. Of course, smarter minds than some of us at Suzuki figured out how to get these bikes to run very well on the stock airbox
 
I like the idea.... I've been trying to figure out how to make pods for my biek since they are NO LONGER sold anywhere... Damn siamese carbs...

I figure i can do something similar to this idea but im going to have to find a way to mount it to a oval surface -.- Been working on this for a month now... Maybe instead of foam you could find an old air filter that has the cardboard material stuff and cut a circle and put that in instead of the foam. may work better?
 
I don't know what your airbox looks like, but the airbox on my 550 was fed through a hole probably about an 1 1/2" diameter hole from the filter box, and was no near what the combined carb intakes were. So if your aixbox is setup like mine, then I would assume 4 filters at least the same size as the intakes would feed plenty of air. I would suggest trying some metal tubing of some type, for looks sake. Copper would look pretty cool, or maybe some polished aluminum. Copper tubing is pretty easy to come by and not all that expensive, and you can probably find aluminum pretty easy to.

And the bike, well, it looks akward. Like half of its missing and you can barely reach the bars from the seat. And the exhaust looks like it belongs on a home made go kart or something. If the engine turns over and the wheels roll then it has potential though.

Some people just like to tinker, why can't people handle that? And there's always performance to be found in a stock bike, it's not like thier performance race bikes.

I think he said the seat wasn't fully sorted, one might assume that this is a work in progress, and the air filters, exhaust, and whatever else is going on here isn't in it's final stage.

Terror, I applaud you for revealing your MacGyver instincts, but you don't need to be so defensive - people on the GSR seem to appreciate creativity, but I've also noticed that alot have been there done that and returned to stock setup, or at least tried and true methods. The more you try to tell people not to give you a hard time, they're just going to flame you for it. Self deprecation works way better!:D

I think the saying goes, "If we didn't like you we wouldn't pick on you"

Keep the pics coming and move this thread into Projects and Rebuilds so we can follow this.

Ok - just trying to help you avoid wasting time. And I've got nothing against non-factory air filters but you really ought to look up bellmouths and read about them and the research you've done on non-factory filters is seriously flawed. It ain't gonna run 10% perfect let alone 100%. As the bishop said to the actresss 'it's not about size it's all about shape' (ok, I tweaked the joke a bit).

Nothing wrong with experimenting with stuff- many have before you and many will after you. But you have to appreciate the technology that has evolved in carbs/ fuel injection systems. These bikes were designed by engineers who pushed the limits without losing reliability and rideability. Thinking they have missed something simple is naive. Don't get offended - people on this site are just offering their advice assuming you would like to have a decent running bike without a lot of effort.
 
Hey Terror_Storm! I Like the bike (although probably wouldn't head in that direction personally). Anyhow, keep up the McGuyvering! I had a thought about the air flow. Depending on how thick the foam is (in the other thread listed on page 2 I think, they were 1" thick) you could drill holes around the pariffery of the pvc still in line w the filter (again, the filter needs to be pretty tight to the pvc to keep out dust). I haven't read about bell shaped boxes or anything (except on some very taboo, naughty and strange sites) but just thought that if need be that might open up the airflow while still keeping the air filtered. If you look at an aftermarket filter like a K&N they have a huge amount of surface area vs. what has been built here. As Hampshire has been trying to point out they also have a short velocity stack molded into them where they mount to the carb. You'll get plenty of velocity with those tubes but no volume.
