    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I bought these signals for my bike. I am putting these on the front and rear...I know they say license plate signals but have a creative way to put them on the front.(in case you were wondering)

They are 2 wire, single filament, 21watt.
They wont blink. I push left, the lefts come on, I push right, the rights come on but none blink
The relay makes that honk/squeak sound when I turn them on, and when I tap the relay they will blink, but only once. If I tap it again, it will blink one time again.
I have an 80 850G project bike that shares the same turn signal realay and TCSU. I have tried swapping them out get the same result.
Is it the 21 Watt that is my problem? Or something else?
Any suggestions?

Yeah, sometimes you get a dozen responses in five minutes, other times, you might have to wait a couple of hours. Hang on, we'll get there. :p

Not sure if the stock lights are rated at 23 or 27 watts, but your 21s should be close enough.

You have stock lights in the rear signals?

I will be using four of the lights in the e bay listing. 2 fronts and 2 rears. I previously had no signals at all.
 
I probably have all four stock lights as well as the salvage yard that Old_Skool visits that is near you. ;)

Those are supposed to be 10k posts celebratory fireworks. Looks more like some Tesla stuff. :)

I tried the electronic flasher change as is done on Cliffs site.
No worky. Back to the drawing board tomorrow.
How can tiny little turn signals kick my butt when I can/have successfully rebuild the top end and carbs and have a great running bike? ha ha silly electrical. :confused:
 
Perhaps Super Stee might be in the vicinity some time?

My 550L is bone stock and in perfect original working order. I plugged one of these signals into the 550 and it causes the same result ....that being the signal will blink once and then just stay on. At least this lets me know that my 1100 system was probably properly working before I did the simple mod with the electronic flasher unit.
Bringing me back to the problem of why they wont blink. I used the Tridon ep-34. One other mention is that these bulbs are filament style but very small round glass bulbs. I did not try to open them up to get access to the bulb, there are no screws . I fear they are a sealed unit, but that just could not be. I dont want to bugger them up prying with a screwdriver in case I need to return them.
This small bulb size and odd wattage must be causing the trouble. Impulsive shopper here. :p
 
anyone want to take a stab at this? ......otherwise I will have to return these signals.:(
 
I suspect you are not drawing enough power to activate the relay. Locate the stock bulb number and find the power draw (usually rated in amps, if so just multiply by 12). I suspect your stock bulbs draw closer to 30 watts than 20.
To test this theory, do this (I know it sounds silly but it will work).
Plug one into the front and 2 into the rear. That will give you a power draw of 63 watts. I strongly suspect you will see blinkage. You will have to do some creative temporary wiring, but it will see if the power draw is the issue.
Give it a shot and let us know.

So basically you're saying to just try the 3 turn signals?
Would that test be with the stock flasher setup or the electronic flasher mod on cliffs site?

Yes, what I am saying is instead of using 2 bulbs use 3 (on one side, either the left or the right). The test is the same with either flasher setup.
To explain a bit more: a relay needs a load to turn off. If the load is not large enough, it will not turn off, hence not back on again. You won't harm anything, and you may learn something.
