DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

ok so i have setteled on the vance and hines 4-1 exhaust. apparently the only dyno jet kit i can get is a stage 3 which requires running pods. can i just up my main jets to .120's or.122.5's and a K&N factory style filter? will i need any piolt jets or air jets? will this setup even work? thanks guys:D by the way the bike is stock except for a mystery 4-2 exhaust thats pretty wore out.

Hi,

If all you are doing is adding the V&H 4-n-1 and you are keeping the stock airbox, you shouldn't need much in the way of jetting changes. I have read here where going up one size on the mains was all that is necessary, along with perhaps shimming the needles. You are going to have to keep an eye on your plugs to be absolutely certain. Use the "plug chop" method and read a plug at all throttle openings (idle, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and WOT).

I have notes HERE and HERE and HERE.

The is a copy of the V&H jetting recommendations on my website. It says to use a 120 main for the 850.

I thought there was a Stage 1 kit available?

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

If I'm not mistaken the only kit available can be used as stage 1-3.
It comes with three different sized jets.

ok thanks for the info guys. i know when i start changing things it could get messy just trying to get as much info. as possible before i start

If you are going with pods shoot me a pm, I got pods with my free 850 that I am not using. I got it from another GSR member so rather keep the parts in the family so to speak. Not sure how old they are but seem to be in good shape, I might even have the jets he used with the 4-1. No pipe but I have the pods and some baggies with carb parts he took out when he cleaned them to go back to stock.

I'd go up two main jet sizes and see how it runs. Pods are a far more drastic change than adding a header.
