A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I am trying to help out a friend.

Listed on e-bay are some 1980 gs850gl turn signals, that carries different part numbers than his 1980 gs1000g.
I know there are slight differences in style, but could someone that has a 80-81 gs850gl or a gs1000gl please give me the length of the stem from mounting to just under the round portion of the lamp and the diameter of the lamp, or any other dimensions you care to provide.
then I can compare them to the measurements on my 80gs850g.

a picture of the lamp would be greatly appreciated if possible.

On my 1981 1000GL 3 3/4" from where the rubber bushing contacts the ear to the edge of the signal, 3 1/8" round signal

For comparison
82 850 GL 3 5/8" from bushing to edge of signal, 3 1/8" round signal

The 81 has a slightly larger stem with no taper, the 82 has a slightly smaller and tapered stem. they are different signals between the two bikes

sounds like they will work just fine.
Thank you for the help.

A few years ago, on the way to Durango, Colorado, we hit some nasty bumps in the road which bounced the luggage rack on my wife's 850L hard enough to shear the left rear turn signal off.

While we were there, we found a motorcycle 'recycling facility' (junkyard) and found a signal. The only complete signal I could find happened to come off a 1000, but it had the mount, too, which I also needed. The difference between the 1000 signal and the 850 signal was not the length, it was the diameter. The 1000 signal is about 1/2" larger.
