A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Nice launch

Thanks. I still have some stuff to work out of it, I should be launching just a bit harder than that. Lot of stuff going on, obviously, trying to not bog it and keep the front end mostly on the ground, hah...

I put it on youtube, maybe this will work better for you.

Thanks! MUCH better, and Full-screen!

The guy on the ZX-14 should be in the low to mid nines stock. You looked more experienced than he did.

Well, Mike is a good friend of mine, and is 100 pounds heavier than me (I weigh about 150). He's certainly been doing this a lot longer than me, and got me into this. Heck, he was the one that bought the GS out of the field and did the initial work on it before selling it to me ;)

His best time so far has been a 10.09 I think. We have another friend who has a lime green ZX-14 that is my weight, who on the same day and track pulled off a 9.84.

Also, bear in mind this is at about 4000 ft elevation, so... ;)

Thanks for the compliment, I've been working at it a lot. The nice thing about Wendover is that they are kind of the 'outlaw' drag strip, no tech inspections, just... if you have $10, you can run it, whatever it is. It's 120 miles from where I live, but most people are gone by 3pm, and he runs it until 6, so you end up at a point where you can just hot lap and go again. I probably get 30-40 runs every time I go out there, and man, that helps your launch a lot.

Looking good! The paint on mine is actually a Chrysler color, Electric Blue Pearl Metallic, which came on some PT Cruisers of all things. The paint shop had a paint chip catalog, and I just liked the color for some reason. Plus, the paint guy kept telling me that plain paint is boring, haha.

If you end up needing anything from the stock front end, let me know, I'm going to go with the front of a GSXR-750 or so this winter and will have the stock parts left over.

Took the engine out again today to get it torn down. I plan on taking the crank out to get it welded, possibly putting in the 750 oil pump gear, looking wistfully at a billet clutch basket, and possibly putting in some hotter cams.

Other than some pretty good carbon build up, the cylinders looked pretty good.

I did find one minor issue, looks like one of the oil pump bolts has backed out, eep!

Onward and upward... I'll probably get the cases split tonight and get a better look at the goodies.

Anyone have any suggestions for things I need to do in here while I have it apart? I've been reading other folk's thread in regards to this, and outside of the oil pump gear and checking the gear shift dogs, it sounds like there is not a lot to be done

Disassemble the oil pump & see if it has any scoring on the impeller or the case where the impeller spins. If there is any it will lower the oil pressure on a pump system that ony make 3-7 psi normally, with all GOOD parts. Call me at 714-356-7845 if I can help you or answer questions. Ray.

I'll certainly inspect the oil pump, thanks.

Anyone have a source for cheap standard piston rings? I seem to be able to find .5 over for cheap, but standards are $25 a piston, according to partshark. I was aiming for $40 all in ;)

Just get an 1166 piston kit for it & do what you will end up doing down the line anyway! That will save you wasted money on EXPENSIVE stock rings! Ray.

You are like a little devil on my shoulder Ray ;)

1166? I see mention of an 1168 here and there, what's a 1166 consist of? This is the biggest size I can bore the liners out to, right?

Looks like it would be a 10.25:1 after it's all done, how does that compare to stock? I suppose then I'd have to pop for the premium fuel at the pumps, haha.

Thanks for the input.

You'll really like the 1166 kit. Best bang for the buck.
I'm building a 1230 since I blew up two 1166 kits. Might as well go bigger!

Actually, 1166 is as big as you can go on a stock 1100 block but if you get an 1150 block, the same 3mm overbore will be a 1229!!! Ray.
