The past week, I've been having a heck of a time with my rear brake. After a new rear caliper piston set (with seals and boots), Earl's speedflex brake line, and master cleaning; the brake would heat up, start dragging, build pressure, and drag harder.
This was frustrating but a useful experience for me
Last night, I had the master apart (for the 5th time) to make absolutely sure that the tiny relief port was clear (it's small enough where I can't pass a bare strand of copper cat5 ethernet cable through it - not sure on the copper gauge size). Is the hole large enough? Did it somehow get corroded and even though I can squirt fluid through it, is there a restriction? I don't think so. By my best guess, it looks proper. (Sorry, no photos).
So I think that perhaps the MC spring is a little sacked out, so I give it a little stretch. Back on the bike it goes. Hmm, you know, when I'm linking up the MC yoke on the bottom of the push rod to the brake pedal, I'm having to push up several mm's to slide the pin in. That looks odd... What changed? I didn't mess with how the yoke threads onto the push rod... Well look at this, my brake pedal isn't going to the stops, but hitting on this foot rest. Darn, that little bit of 2-3mm's of MC piston travel could be why my fluid isn't going back?
I then adjusted the yoke on the pushrod so there is no piston movement when hooking up the brake pedal.
After a nice 40 mile test ride (last night, it was pretty chilly up here in SE MN), the caliper was cool and the rear wheel spun freely! Wow, and to think, I didn't question how it came apart nor how it went back together. I did know that the right foot rest was bent (forward), but didn't equate that to my rear caliper/master cylinder problems.
So, I'm hunting for what looks to be a discontinued right foot rest bracket. Anyone know where I may be able to find #1 in the fiche below?
