A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So far , I've been out on my newly aquired 81 gs650e (11K miles ) twice. Both trips have been mostly highway, few stops, 30 mile trips. Bike starts and runs fine on the trip, idles fine at stop lights, and runs great. When I park the bike, it wants to idle really rough and almost stalls. I haven't checked the plugs yet, but it did look like it was running slightly rich before I had it out on the road ( putting around the yard ). I wanted to ride it a few times to open it up and check them then. It doesn't have a stock exhaust. It's a 4 to 1 with a megaphone on it. Airfilter looks good, but I haven't replaced it yet. Any ideas?

You need to check the plugs and find out if it was jetted for the 4-1 exhaust.

Clean your plugs and air filter,or get new ones.Do you have a baffel in the megaphone or is it straight a thru pipe?I didnt ride my bike for 2 weeks and it would not stay idling untill I cleaned the plugs and air filter. It has ran fine ever since.

Plugs are good; nice brown color - Airfilter is questionable. I have a new one on order.

The exhaust has a baffle in it. I'm not sure what make the pipe is . The megaphone is welded on.

clean the plugs and regap them.Check for good spark on all cylinders too.One bad plug could make it do that. if they are old I would change them out anyway.I always ride with 4 new ones with me just in case.

?

?

Is it just a very low idle when it gets hot? If so, suggests maybe an air intake leak check the wonderful connection between the air box and the carbs by spraying carb cleaner and see if the idle changes.
