    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

81 g to 82 g wheel interchangeability

good evening.

will a pair of 82 gs1100g tubeless rims and rotors slot into place of those on an 81 gs650g katana? looking to get away from tubes and prefer the safety ridges of the later model. they'll look strange in white with red but are there lying dormant.

Hi,

While I have no direct experience in this situation, I would say "yes" with reservations. Since the wheels from the larger bike are probably wider they may need thinner spacers to mount in the smaller frame. I'll leave finding or making the proper spacers up to you. :)

Not sure about the 650 swap, but if you look at the picture in my sig of my son's '81 850, you will see that it's wearing '82 wheels, from an 1100G.

Since the hubs are the same, I would guess that the swap should work.

thanks fellas. was looking for a fiche to see if the 81 650g and 1000g rims have the same part number but my normal parts chase sites aren't turning up numbers as you can't buy the rim anymore. so far the drivecouplings from the 1100 and 650 are the same part and i expect the pcd of the discs would allow swapping between the rims if the discs were different sizes but yet to check.

will try the scanned fiches from your site cliff. thanks as always.

looks nice steve. the backrest scares me a little but otherwise quite tidy.
 
by the fiches, we're on. front rim goes from 1.85 to 2.15 but looks like all else is similair or swappable.

will do a dry run another day when i've time to check it in the flesh. wonder how the 1100 rims will look accented in white.

no problems offering the rear wheel up to the 850 steve? the rear disc designs are very different though i expect the rotor to hub offset should stay about the same.

No problems here. But, then, the '82 and '83 850 and 1100 share the same frame, so probably also brake hardware.

Your 650 is smaller, so might need to adapt something somewhere.

Before you bolt everything down tight, be sure to check the splines in the 'new' wheel. First, check the color. If they are black or silver, you are probably OK, but check them just so you know. If they are GOLD, it is MANDATORY that you check them. The gold splines were made of a softer metal that wore quickly, sort of as a sacrificial piece.
