DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

81 GS1100 clutch cover wear Q?

My clutch cover has shoe wear in the middle and a little ding from a spill where the brake lever got into it. Anyway, what is the chrome like finish on it, anodizing? I'm thinking I'll wet sand it with 400 grit, then scotchbrite, and lastly polish it. Then at least I can keep it polished. Any other ideas?

Back in the day, Semichrome polish or Never Dull, either would make the covers look like chrome & both still available... No clue about any newer stuff.

Grew up using semichrome and never dull. But my choice today is Blue Magic Metal Polishing Cream, it will change your world. It changed mine anyway.

I use wd40 and purple scotchbrite pads. The clear finish will have to be removed before you can polish the cover. After you've removed the clearcoat then use sand paper on the ding. After you do the 400 wet sanding follow it up with the scotchbrite with wd40. Blue Magic Metal Polish for the final step.

Word of warning....."Once you've done the deed to the clutch cover you will feel the need to do All the covers"

Thanks for the tip on the methods and the Blue Magic polish, I have a bottle of Green Dragon polish that's awesome but it's going to be used up soon, my former supplier doesn't race with us anymore and when I google it, I get an Everclear / Cannabis drink. Both ends of the crank have newer looking covers, judging by scrapes on the header I'm sure it went down a time or two. I realized it has an aftermarket offset rear brake strut so at one time it had a big back tire also.

It looks a lot better now, I just sanded and polished the raised area because it's easier that way while on the bike. The brake pedal ding isn't going away any time soon.
