DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Clever idea molding the base directly on the frame.

It had been quite a while since I played with glass when I made my tail section. Did you get all the fun glass strings everywhere?

Lookin good, can't wait to see more.

I went with the woven glass mat this time, I have used the other stuff before and I was itching all day after that.

If I'm in Hamilton when you're home can I see your bike? I have several customers there and visit them occaisionally.

Herman

You are going to have to let me know ahead of time as the bike spends most of the time in storage right now. It will be finished hopefully by the end of the month though and will be out as soon as the snow melts

You forgot the coolest part! It was all done in the bed of a pickup!! Looking good can't wait to see it progress!

That's just a little resin rich there :-) Decent job though. I've got something like 120 square feet of fiberglass sitting in my bedroom.. I still haven't figured out what to use it on.

I noticed the resin also, but declined to say anything at the time. You do want to be careful, because too much resin can make the finished product really brittle. Shouldn't be a problem though, if you apply some more layers. You really just want to use enough resin to saturate the cloth.

I don't want to sound like a know-it-all, this is stuff that I learned the hard way quite a few years back on an auto project.

I used the woven as well, but didn't plan out all my cuts properly, and had to make a couple Oh-Crap cuts on the fly. It resulted in me gluing a bunch of strings to my gloves, pants and shoes.

Live and learn.

I know there is too much resin in some parts as I did not have a spatula to squeeze the excess out with, I was just going to grind it down before layering more

wow Chris, you're really putting everything into this. Puts my 400, weekend warior/student project, to shame. lucky i have little shame so it balances out.

No wonder you were selling off all those stock parts you had, eeesh.

That sounds good... I'd wondered about doing that myself, however I'm seriously "challanged" in doing that sort of thing.

The trouble I have over here in Aus is finding someone who actually does that sort of work.

Come on Pete, leave it out mate. You'll have these Yanks thinking that we are all neanderthals with gravel rash on our knuckles.

We do have engineering shops in Australia you know.

j/k

I know it has been a while but I will be posting some updates soon.
Not going with fairing for now
New headlight brackets
New chain
New rear shocks .5 inches longer than stock
Came up with a way to mount a rear fender on my swingarm

Well I smacked a valve in my 550 when I was beating it like a red headed step child the other day, So I have no other choice but to finish the 400, I am almost completely finished, All that is left is the wiring, get it to run and the seat. I am sorry I have been so lazy with the updates and pics, I swear I will post some soon.

Yes, pics and progress please! Otherwise we'll start smacking you like a GS550 :-D

I know it has been a while but there is finally an update on my GS400 project but I have been busy and broke as I keep having to fix my truck. There is no exhaust on it at the moment as I am having a custom Stainless set bent up for it, It should be on next week. I scrapped the clubmans and picked up a set of clip-ons, they are a bit big but some shimstock should take care of the clearance issues. The seat is about 50% finished as It still needs some more coats of FG and I need to build a support into the back along with make a spot to fit my lights. The speedo mount is kind of ghetto but will work for now. I want to have a top triple clamp made up out of a solid piece of aluminum. The headlight pot is from an old Triumph and came free of charge from a guy at work as he said he wanted my pos jap bike to have some class. I am looking at about 2-3 more weeks before it is on the road and I am violating various traffic laws.
