Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum and the bike world. I bought my first bike ever this past fall, a 81 GS450L. The guy I bought it from said hes had it for ten yrs and only started it once every year, road it around the block, and parked it for the year. When I picked it up, I had my cousin ride it home(I dont even have a permit yet). When we got to my house, there was an oil leak by the gear shifter which i think might be a bad gasket, regardless, I want to redo the whole bike! I want to strip the whole bike down, get the engine cleaned and new gaskets put in, along with the carb getting cleaned and up to maximum performance. I want to repaint the whole bike, including the frame, engine, exhaust, carbs, tank, fenders, EVERYTHING all flat black. I wrote "help" in the title because I dont know how to take apart the whole engine and put it back together in tip top shape, nor would I even think about doing anything with the carbs. I would rather pay someone for this service of cleaning/fixing/tuning/painting. So does anyone know anyone in Johnstown, PA or surrounding areas to help with the engine. The carbs I can ship somewhere but I want the best bang for my buck, like everyone else does. Also, has anyone ever put a stubby exhaust on this bike before or could help me out with that? I have tried to search for someone putting a stubby exhaust and didnt find one to help. Thanks to all for the help!!!
