DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a couple petcock related questions. My 81 GS650 which I just picked up is leaking from there and I am not sure if the petcock is the right one. The fuel tap faces forward and makes for an awkward loop in the fuel line. Looking at the parts break down on Mr. Cycles site it looks like the tap should face backwards. Also when I search on eBay for one they seem to all face back. Does anyone know for certain? Also is there a petcock that does away with the vacuum operation and is just a typical on - off - reserve style? Thanks!

The 81 tank mounted the petcock at the rear, the 82 and 83 mounted in the middle of the tank side. So if you have an 81 it makes sense to send the output forward.
On some petcocks the outlet can be repositioned as needed.

Get a rebuild kit for it or buy a new one. They are a critical part of the fuel system and an important safety item as well. Leaks there can be dangerous and if it fails the engine will shut off, maybe when you can least afford it.

On the '81 and early '82s (with the rearward mounted petcock) that I have seen, the petcock faced forward.

Interesting side note...I borrowed an 82 (I think) 650G tank for my '83 while my tank was being painted, and the '83 sidecovers completely blocked the petcock.

Apparently, it depends on model. My L tank has petcock mounted about 6 inches from rear of tank- so rear facing outlet has nice direct route to carb fuel rail.

Thanks folks, ordered the one that tom203 gave a link to and then ordered 2 new washers and bolts (just because). I am thinking someone added this one to the bike or this tank isn't original to my L model. Either way it will be right now.
