A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey Folks,

Picked up this 81 GS750L for $350 without doing enough research first (shame on me right?)

Wanting to do a cafe build with it and now after some research and studying the bike more, trying to figure out what I can do. I understand the leading axle now and it seems that it could be possible to swap this out with an 81 750E fork?? Just worried with this fork setup the front end might just be too high.

Any suggestions for rear wheels? Is it possible to get a rear wheel in this same style that is closer to the front diameter?

Any tips on whats best if I'd like to continue on with this bike? Carbs on it were trashed, picked up a new set on ebay but haven't bolted them on yet. Bike has 12k miles on it, and I can get the engine to crank over with the starter so its not seized.

Yeah, too bad you got the L, they have a bot of a bad rap with some around here. I have one that I am going to get around to one of these days too, don't worry, you're in the right place, and it's still salvageable tho :D

I believe the forks tubes are the same diameter, but could be wrong. Check out https://www.allballsracing.com/index.php/forkconversion they may have the info you need, and you could just swap the triple tree out if you find a suitable donor set at a scrap yard.

Bummer about the carbs. Download the manual from bass cliff's site and, strip dip and replace the rings from Robert Barr's website and make sure your carb boots and brings on the boots are good.

Go through the revised stator papers and GS charging system health too starting here.

Good luck!

Can someone help me understand the main differences? Are the frames the same?? Clearly the tank is different.
