A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Thanks for the responses. I'm a newb to bikes so I appreciate the help. This bike needs lots of stuff.

Is there any aftermarket carbs, other years or maybe ones from a 1000+ cc bike of the same year I can use?

The 34CV carbs from just about any '80-up 1000 or 1100 can work in those manifolds.
I ran '81 GS1000 carbs in my 850.

Eric

I haven't been working on my bike for awhile. I did find a tank and I found a set of carbs off an 81 gs850. Will these work on my 82?

Physically, the tank will fit, but the mounts at the rear of the tank are different, and will need to be modified, unless it's an "L" tank.

The carbs will work, but the "choke" mechanism will be different. The '81 carbs have a "choke" that is activated by a knob that comes through the middle of the steering stem. The '82 carbs have a "choke" that is activated by a lever under the left handgrip. The actual mechanism on the carbs is different, too, not just the activation mechanism.

Ok, I'm sure I can make the choke work, but you're saying they should fit and work well though right?

Well, I picked up another bike today. It's a mish mash unit. It's a 78 Suzuki 250 frame and this guy shoved a 93 Suzuki katana 600 engine in it. I'm hoping to at least be able to use the carbs from it. Do you think I'll be able to use the things like the throttle and start switch. Do you think I can use the tach and speedo, or will it only work with the Katana engine? Is swapping engines a dumb idea?

Finally got around to checking the new bike out more. Turns out to be an 82 Suzuki GS450t. Still pretty sure I'm not keeping the 93 katana 600 engine in it though

Well I started my wife's gs450 cafe and needed somewhere to put the 93 Katana 600 engine. I have a spare GS850 shafty frame laying around. Thinking of putting it in there with new wheels and a mono shock swing arm. Anyone done something like this before.

Got a little distracted from my GS850 and built this, 1979 KZ650.
