All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Sure it will, if it's still good. For about ten bucks more you can get a brand new series regulator.

Got a SH-775 for $60 delivered to my door. Do you all suggest I purchase this kit:

Reading though some related threads it appears that I can wire this easily with spade connectors and seal with rtv. Should be able to find a fuse similar to what the above kit contains.

delivered for $60 ?? what a deal, but I'm a skeptic,so humor me! It's Polaris p/n 4012941, right ? scooped from your local ATV dealer.

I used 14 gauge, but others are using 12. I have a common grounding point on frame that ties R/R negative to battery negative -this gives a good return path for the various loads and lets R/R "see" battery.

Thank you Tom

Thanks for all the great advice. I installed last night and am glad I did not order the Trimumph harness as it would not have fit. My charging system is now excellent!!!

That's great; now consider getting an onboard voltmeter so you can admire it as you ride!

Umm, what about your stator? Did you test it? If your bike died while working on the carbs, screams stator is dead as well. Usually when we install a new series R/R we include a new stator to start things fresh.

I posted this on another thread I have:

I went through the stator papers with a fine toothed comb and have read all I can regarding these issues....all tests were good as far as the stator is concerned. AC on all three legs were 78V at 5000pm. Resistance was .7 ohms. The tests on the r/r showed it was defective per test C on the papers. With the new r/r I am getting 14.8V at 5000 rpm.

When I got the bike it had a spun rod bearing....7000 miles on the odometer. The PO had already starting parting it out. The bike was missing 2 key items that I am sure he sold right before I got there.....the cdi and the r/r. Before I knew anything about GS's I purchased both of the missing items (used) from ebay. My guess is that the r/r was already toast when I got it.

I cleaned all the connections and went with a common ground to the frame per the advice from many posts on here.
