Sorry GK, no joy on the bolts.

They had the m10X40 but not in the 1.25 pitch. They did not have the 35s.

Thanks buddy.....I did not expect them to have them.....but I do appreciate the time you took to have a look.

Seems it's not a very easy one to get.......

Just found out I can order them. Not sure on a price though. They are probably not a lot though. Want me to order you some?

Wrastlin' the beast and Pre-Op

Wrastlin' the beast and Pre-Op

Picked up a metric tap and die set yesterday and tapped what needed to be tapped. Case bolts, check.....tank mount nuts, check.

Got my ebay rear fender on the door step today. It's soaking in vinegar as we speak.

Took a look at my springs after they have been in vinegar for a couple of days and am just not satisfied with them. I decided to powder coat them and the grab rail in "almost chrome." I called my PC guy and talked with him a little bit about it and sent him some pictures so we could be on the same page.

Then tonight I attempted to turn the motor on it's side and drop the frame on it. That worked until I tried to line the mounting holes up and then it got pretty sporty. I tried to walk it in from the side. That also got pretty sporty. I just don't have the right set up and didn't want to drop anything on the kids while their Mom was out tonight with her friends. "Hey Honey, can you meet me at the ER?" :o

This resulted in a different set up and a call to a couple of buddies. They will be here in the morning to help me lift it in.

Here's the pre-op pic:

Man that's lookin' good! You gotta be happy with that :D

My housemate and I got mine in just by lifting and sliding with rags protecting the frame like you have. Mind you, mine's just a little 450...

It's on....like Donkey Kong

It's on....like Donkey Kong

After the wrastlin' match last night I had some buddies run by the house during lunch and give me a hand.

Here she is all taped up. Decided to go ahead and be cautious and tape the allthread as well. Those were like 3 foot files going through my freshly PC'd frame. eeee....gives me the shivers to think about it.

After about 30 minutes of finagling, struggling and grinding a little PC off the mounting bolt holes in the front mounting braces, it was finally in and mounted. Like my flip flops?

Oh yeah... now you're talkin'! Don't ya love it when it starts resembling a motorcycle again? Nice work :D

Really nice, that there is looking great......

it's cool how you and I both have more or less done the same thing with our bikes, and how we also did it in a different order, I have everything on the bike almost except the engine, yet you have nothing on the bike but the engine....

So by the time I get my engine in, you will have the rest of your bits and pieces put on the bike.....LOL

But I do have a concern.....

Your footwear, is that proper safety attire to be wearing while working.....open toes and all, heaven forbid something should fall on your foot, it's going to hurt something nasty......

Just razzing you, but being a bit serious do be careful.....:)

Thanks Pete. I know, it's pretty cool seeing it shape up. As a matter of fact, I couldn't help it. Had to put the tank on to see what it would look like! :)

The tank will be repainted and the motor emblems will go on last so it will look better for sure, but I like the way it's shaping up. I decided last night after looking at it that I'm going to do a black metallic on the tins with the OEM badges. I think that would look pretty sweet.

One of my favorite things are all the new shiny bolts. It really finishes the look off well.

GK, maybe we can ride to the border on our bikes and wave to each other when we are finished. LOL.

About the foot wear. Yep.....absolutely. Not the right safety attire. Nor was anything else I had on. Meant to change but the guys showed up early and I was trying to hurry to get them back to work and just didn't think. Glad the little piggies made it through the day. :D

I thought about what order I would put the bike back together. I thought it would be easier to put the motor in first and then work my way out. It may have worked out better to wait, but oh well. It's done now. I do like having that part finished.

If you have a bucket of frogs to swallow it's best to start with the big one first. It get easier and easier after that.

Hey the only reason my engine is not in and was not in first as I had those 2 bolts break on me, had to get the holes welded up, have to get them drilled and tapped, and need shop time to get that done, ohhh and it needs to be painted, that's not done until the drilling and tapping is done.

and now I have all the wiring in the way as well, the coils, and so on, so I might be taking things off, again, to put things on....LOL

oh and here's waving at ya....

ughh....that's right. Forgot about all that on your build. You are showing that bike some love for sure. :dancing:

Funny....I think that's how this process started. :D Since my wife won't let me put it in the living room I guess I'll have to ride it. ;)

Currently it's a LOVE/HATE relationship me and the bike are having....LOL

Not happy with the rust on the rear shock springs. Can't get to it really. I talked to my PC guy about doing them in almost chrome. He is really hesitant to use any type of chrome PC because he doesn't think it looks enough like chrome. I talked with him about it and sent him some pictures and assured him that I was not looking for a perfect chrome match. I'm going to drop them off with him tomorrow. He said he found a good powder.

I was going to do the same with the grab bar, but today after looking at it have decided to sand, polish and clear coat it. It's got a covering of some sort that Aircraft Stripper didn't touch, but 100 grit is taking it off. I'll need to buy more sandpaper though! That's some tough stuff. It will look great when I finish it though.

Dang GT. I'm so jealous. I've been scrubbing like heck on my engine and every time I look at yours it makes me want to cry...You're almost close enough to me that I have seriously thought about loading it up and dropping it off. Very impressive work all around and good dude to boot!

Thanks Sci. I appreciate it. I spent a lot of time scrubbing and prepping the motor. It's worth the effort though. Not as hard as I anticipated, but just took longer then I thought it would. You can do it! :D:D

I spent today working on the grab rail and rear fender. The plating/coating/anodizing/whatever it is does not prove easy to get off. I went through all of my 100, 120,150 grit sand paper and any number of Dremmel sanding wheels, discs, and a wire brush. I finally have it finished with 600 grit and will move on the the higher grits next.

The ebay rear fender was pretty rusted and the chrome on top is cover with very fine pitting. Looks like salt spray that sat on it too long. It isn't ruined and I can live with it after polishing most likely.

I dropped the springs off at the PCer today. Should have them back in a couple of days.
