All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I THINK it will but can anyone else here verify it for me? Don't want to spend the $$ if it won't work.

All rear wheels, 16-inchers or 17-inchers, on all GS850G's, all years, whether standard G or GL, are interchangeable.

Same for the GS1000G or GL, and the GS1100G, GL, or GK.

You may have to shim it by using washers and spacers, but it will fit.

How do I know? Simple: I've done it.

From the post I'm guess were not just talking G models but L (no G) wheel to a G bike. Personally I don't know the answer to the question.

I've read here that the newer year 850's have softer rear splines. Not sure if this matters other that to suggest a close inspection before you purchase any used parts.

Thanks for the info. Coming from someone who has done this swap I trust it to be solid info.

I'll be sure to check that out. After reading your reply I remember seeing that mentioned before. Thanks for the reminder.

Killer2600, all 850's in the GS line of Suzukis are shaft-driven, no exceptions.

All GS shafties have the "G" suffix, which automatically means "shaft drive".

The "G" suffix is sometimes followed by an "L", as in GS850GL, which is one of those useless "L" models with the weird handlebars, uncomfortable seat, and dangerously and inconveniently low fuel capacity for anything other than short-distance hops.

Some GS models do have an "L" at the end, such as the GS550L and the GS750L, which are chain-driven. The original poster refers exclusively to GS850's, all of which are shafties.

All the wheel spline sets on GS shafties are interchangeable. So, Scotto58, you may want to take the wheel splines out of the old 79 wheel and put them in the 82 wheel. It will work just fine.
