82 gk wiring

According to the vin i brought home whileago an 82 gs1100 gk. A young guy had it. Nothing done to the bike was done by him so i have lots of questions. Ive been on this forum since 2005. If steve is still around maybe he will chime in.he has pods. Doesnt know if its rejetted. Big problem is many things. He was told the wiring harness was why it didnt run right. I suspect jets. But he started unolugging everything on the harness.wires hanging everywhere.gk i thought had fairings, bags, a trunk.its all off.someone added an led headlight and custom tailight and rear signals.all tour stuff is gone.but the key doesnt work,no lights, horn, starter button, nothing. I have a manual for when i owned an 80 ga 1000. I wonder if thats enough like the 1100 in regard to engine and electrics. I will post pictures tomorrow but its nightime now.

Go to BikeCliffs Website, link in my signature. Get the manual indicated in the pic below, it has a wiring diagram in it. The good color wiring diagram you want, unfortunately the link no longer works. The color wiring diagram indicated for the 1100G will likely be closer to what you have with your bike than the 80 1000 diagram. Hard to know that the previous previous owner may have done with the lighting mods he made.

Thank you.as we all know the stock headligh bucket is a mess of wires. No idea what he did with that. If the remaining harness is too hacked i will try to find one on ebay.

With so many things unplugged and hanging down and the aftermarket tailight and signals they would not have stock wiring colors or connectors. Its like there are a jillionn

All single wires hanging down, bullet connectors. Even if i had a new harness the stock connectors werent like that

I have questions i need answered. Since the guy singled out so many wires maybe i should just try to buy a complete used harness .ebay wants 150 to 200

No one here can tell you how to spend your time or money. Whether you buy a complete harness or work with what you’ve got, you’ll likely have to spend a lot of time going over the wiring diagram and tagging wires. Since the fairing and hard cases are no longer present, the GK diagram will have some things on it that no longer apply, lighting wise. Perhaps a complete G harness would be a better place to start. Really not sure on that. Sounds like a real puzzle. A project for sure. Only you can decide if it’s worth the time and aggravation.

Wiring is pretty easy as long as you have the proper mentality about it.

I took a harness from a shaft drive 1000L and converted it to fit my first 1000S. There were various features that came on one bike but not the other, but it wasn't hard to piece together what I needed. I removed the harness completely from the bike and laid it out on a large table, where I could study the various plugs and figure out what to do. One good thing is that Suzuki has a certain DNA about their harnesses; various things like the ground wires are always black with a white stripe, power is red and orange, turn signals are a certain color, things like that. Again, it's not hard, you just need to trace lots of wires and figure out where everything is going.

Hey nessism hi! Havent heard from you in years.first let me say i am 73 now. Have owned about 75 bikes. I bought and charged up a brand new battery. Put it in.turned key.nothing. i put a screwdriver across solenoid. Nothing. Tomorrow i was going to run a wire from battery positive to solenoid positive. The solenoid appears to have the ground cable from it to the engine block.crossing the posts should make it turn over, key or no key, ignition or no ignition correct.it wont complete the ignition circuiit but at least get the start circuit closed, correct. I was going to take the harness loose. The ignition switch loose, the battery. Lay it out like you said and see better what might be disconnected or missing,, or bare. I dont know how to hook the ignition switch to the battery to see if anything works withbkey in on position

The gk harness probably has wires for fairing, radio, who knows that i dont need.the instruents on the bike have some dash lights that dont come on.not even neutral. I think i will pull the whole harness.
