    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

82 GS left side controls (horn/light/signal) fixable?

I've looked on eBay for ages for a combo horn/signal switch but every one I've seen has just been junk that I wouldn't waste time with. Can this switch be taken apart, i.e. is the Hi/Lo/L/R toggle just a press fit? I don't want to hamfist it and make things worse. If so at least then I could maybe source the only bit I really need, the button part. The other issue is that it doesn't really find the center position well, and I expect I could work on that too (detent? spring?)

Thanks to you gurus in advance, you haven't let me down yet.

The controls are somewhat universal Look for something from a later model. If you just need the horn button I have one that should fit? I woulod take it apart & lube it, make sure screws are tight
 
yah, you are going to have a hard time finding one with the printing as nice as yours.
Mine was difficult to operate similar to what you stated, wasnnt smooth, didnt return to center. I took the housing apart (off the bar, 2 halves) and used contact cleaner then gerneral purpose spray lube - all better.

I too would like to know how to get the 4 way knob off with out breaking it.

Seems like what you want to do is swap out the internals, as Lynn suggested, and keep your housing because the printing is so much better than most anyothers you will find.
 
They are still available brand new and werent as expensive as I feared!!

Don't worry about replacing the switch with an '82. First of all they're almost impossible to find. Second of all Suzuki electricals haven't changed as much as you might think over the last 20 years. I replaced mine ('82 1100E) with one from a 1990 GSXR 750 which plugged right into my original wiring harness. As an added bonus I was able to do away with the non-functional self-cancelling setup (which didn't work anyway) in exchange for a press to cancel system. The only thing you need to do is disconnect the self-cancelling black box; just unplug it and throw it away (saves weight!). Super simple, nice upgrade, lots of these units laying around in junkyards with nice lettering. I'm sure the GSXR wasn't the only bike to use this same switch.
 
You beat me to it Dink. I was just going to say, I ordered a new one through Suzuki and it was about $100 U.S..
As mentioned though, they are fairly universal, so any switch will work. Probably have to switch wire lead colors around to match things up, but thats about it.
