82 GS1100e rear left turn signal issue

Hey everyone, been reading alot trying to get a grip on whats going on with my turn signal.

I had all the lights working after repairing the single wire that runs to the left rear signal (bad connection), next day i come out and the left rear quit working. Im getting power at the bulb socket, verified with a multimeter and an inline tester with a light. tried swapping bulbs no joy. both work on the right side not on the left. figured maybe a ground went bad since i have power but theres no ground wire coming off the light just the power wire.

if i connect the turn signal flasher relay and put the voltage tester on the lead for the left signal, the tester flashes dimly compared to the right side lead. so it seems like im getting power (but less than the riht signal) at the flasher relay as well. any help would be appreciated its the last light on the bike that i cant get to work right.

The ground wire for the turn signal is usually under the nut holding the turn signal through the frame or mounting bracket.

Yep, you got to have power coming in and ground going out or will not work.

Alright, I’ll disassemble the turn signal stalk and make sure but I don’t think I saw one coming from either side. I’ll report back with findings

Look at your wiring diagram. This is the GS1100 diagram found on BikeCliff's Website. Yours is probably similar.

You likely have Ground wire that is Black wire w/ white tracer (B/W on the diagram). It splits in to 4: 1 to the tail-light, 1 to the license plate light, and 1 to each turn signal. The ground wires for the turn signals should terminate in round lugs that ground the turn signal turn stalks to it's bracket/bike frame.
In my case it's the chrome fender/bike frame.

The Ground wires come from your wiring harness. They do not come from the turn signal stalks.
My ground wires are no longer black w/white tracers, were replaced w/ solid black. Twice now because my GS eats rocks.
