DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Thanks everyone!

It's going to be quite a project! I already know I'll have to fab headlight mounts or opt for a small fairing, add turn signals, and definitely change those tires. Like Ron said, they don't "look" bad but they've been sitting for two years so I'm just going to assume they're toast, but I'll wait until Spring for that since they'll be sitting for a few months anyway.

It has lots of rusty bolts and screws and light surface rust here and there, leaks a little oil and ultimately, I'll want to clean the carbs and who knows what else I'll discover. I'm actually really looking forward to doing all this stuff since I've spent so much time reading about it all spring and summer!

Here you can see some of the rusty bits, but I do have the sidecovers and filter - we took them off for transport.

Cool, Shirl!! One down, another on the way -- your little dirtbike will be continuing it's journey tomorrow night from my place to your friend's shipping depot in Indiana!

Regards,

OMG Steve that's awesome!!! You know it's weird... you KNOW how many bikes I tried to grab all year and how they all slipped through my fingers... why does it not surprise me that they're all now showing up at once??? Watch - I'll get re-offered that Rebel or something or the TX will suddenly show up! And hey - I'd be fine with that! I'd love to have a barn full of projects! Might be a long winter ahead...

I can't wait to get my hands on this thing! Can you PM me your number? Do you have a cell? Do you still have the terminal address? I'll try to get the number for you.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

This is the bike I get to make all my dumb mistakes on without killing myself and have fun without cages in my way. At least trees don't suddenly decide to change lanes... unless one of our big, famous snow storms comes along anyway!

Well done Shirley

You must be on top of the world.Looks a real cool bike.Well done.

Thanks Brenno!!! I can't stop smiling!!! I can't stop browsing the tech thread and saving notes and picking brains already on stuff specific to the GK like I've done with every other bike I thought I'd manage to get but didn't, but I actually have this one! Right here, in my hands!! And I've only gotten three hours of sleep in the last 39 hours!!

I'll tell you what... when they had her running, she sang so sweetly...

You know what else?

I was getting so frustrated as summer abruptly came to a close here that when I heard about other people getting great deals on on this or that bike or free ones, I felt jealousy strongly enough to be discouraged. I HATE jealousy, and I don't like myself when I am feeling it inside me. I think it's the most destructive force in the Universe, and I scolded myself for succumbing to it and kept looking and believing... now I'm one of those people with an amazing find on a bike that is in much better shape than anything in my budget that I've seen all year, and I already have a story I'll never forget to start it off, and a dirtbike on the way to safely get used to things and have a blast in the winter.

Persaverance pays.

Persaverance while staying open minded to new possibilities pays even off bigger.

Just a few of the lessons I've learned so fa,r but among the bigger ones.

I'm so glad I found all of you guys and gals \\:D/

Now I am going to try and sleep!!!! This isn't likel me - I usually live for sleep!

Cool Shirley.Sleep well.

You are going to have so many great stories to tell now with your new stable of bikes. It will be summer /spring again before you know it.The good thing is that you have a bit of time up your sleeve to get the bikes just how you want them.

Keep your stories coming Shirl
mate.

Brenno

Keep the storys coming, the dream is real.

You and the GS, what a team!

Congratulations, some things are just meant to be. Good on you.

Great story, sounds like too much fun. congratulations on the bike. have fun and enjoy!

Hiya Shirl!!

Guess what's sitting at the trucking company in Indiana waiting for a ride home to you?

Yep, the little dirt bike is waiting on the final leg of the journey! I got back about a half hour ago, and Skreemer Steve came along for the ride also (Thanks Steve -- appreciated the help and camaraderie!!) It was about a five hour round trip, but seemed to go pretty fast with the company!

We left the bike in the screen porch as instructed, with a sealed (thanks vacuum sealer - I love that gadget!) plastic bag "zip-tied" to the handlebars that includes the service manual, a replacement cable, lever, and rubber boots.

Enjoy!!

WOW!!!!!

You guys are the best! I'm glad you had had good company - I would have loved to hang out with you guys myself. Hope I can be just as helpful as everyone else has been with me. This place isn't just a form - it's a real community with great neighbors. You guys all rock!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!!

THIS IS THE BEST PLACE ON EARTH!!!

You realize Dave that this bike never would have happened for me if you hadn't posted that original thread!!

And for anyone who missed the thread, here is a link to the pics from the future museum those awesome resto guys have: http://rides.webshots.com/album/555140773rDFgNT Cool thing too is that my buddy who took me out there has had bikes and dirtbikes so he was really into it too. When I won the auction I just figured I was getting some old bike from some guys, not some amazing resto gurus!!! Magic all around!!!

The floorboards and highway pegs are all Suzuki... in my search travels, I've realized there is a GK and a GK2 so I'm wondering if this is actually a stock package on it. I did a search trying to find info on the difference between a GK and GK2 and haven't some up with anything. Regardless, those floor boards are bigguns! Not sure how I feel about all of that, but I'm in no danger of riding it anytime soon!

I love my "new" floorboards! Had to fabricate mods to make it all work before the Galena Weekend, but it worked pretty well. I'll make a few minor modifications before spring, but I'm very happy with it overall. I'm also going to add floorboards for my rear passenger -- Most times that's my wife, Beckie.

What are you planning for the body, Shirl? I got the impression you're taking it off ... true?

Enjoy!
