    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

First of all thanks for the carb cleaning tutorial, it made cleaning my carbs easy, and I am not real mechanical. Now that I got the bike running well, I need to get it to move. When i release the cluth the bike will slowly start out, but if I accelerate, it does not pick up any speed. If i let off the throttle and accelerate slowly it will slowly pick up speed. I pulled the clutch and the plates are not blued, and the fibers seem ok too. I assume it is the clutch, or could it be something else. Any and all help appreciated. Thanks for the great website!
 
Was the clutch release/engage mechanism working freely? It may have been preventing the clutch from fully engaging.

If that appears OK, try removing the rear wheel to see if the splines that transfer power from the driveshaft to the wheel look OK. Maybe the driveshaft is turning, but the splines are skipping. If that's it, not so bad - there seem to plenty of low cost replacement units on eBay.
 
Clutch release was fine. I will have to check the rear end, but it runs out smooth, with no metal to metal noises. Thanks for the ideas.
 
I would say you have stripped the teeth off at one end of the driveshaft dude.

If you cannot get hold of spares let me know as i have one in bits, a bit silly sending it across the world though!

i heard the other day our bikes have a habbit of throwing ring gears? whatever the heck that means apparently its in back drive unit / differential (is it still a diff if it only runs one wheel lol)

yank the back wheel and seperate the "differential" from the swingarm and have a looksie :)

sorry i havnt had all that apart on mine as yet so cannot help any further, let me know what ya find out though for future refrence eh!

Try this, set bike on centerstand, grab the driveshaft boot (the rubber cover at the back of motor) and spin the rear wheel. You should feel the driveshaft flange move in direct correspondence to wheel motion. If not, there are issues with rear wheel splines, fairly common with larger shaft drive bikes. Do a search on spline issues.
If the flange moves with wheel than issue is in motor. If you have ruled out clutch, put bike in gear and spin clutch basket manually. Again this should turn driveshaft at flange when in gear.
If these fail, it is most likely one of two not great situations. In my case, it was a stripped secondary bevel gear shaft. The other situation is a broken secondary output shaft. Search my posts for transmission troubles and I think it was zooks post for the output shaft fix. Basscliff's website may also have link to Zooks trouble. Good luck and keep us posted.

Just so you know i was trawling through ebay and somebody in USA had a Differential for a gs650 for $15.99

So theres one up there if ya need it!

I have to figure out what i have to replace one of my gs's jumps out of 2nd gear at about 5,000 rpm....
