    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

without coughing up the $50 for oem, what's a cheap alternative that others have used. Currently it looks like There is some sort of .5 " foam seatr cushion material wrapped around mine.

The $50.00 unit is compleat. Foam element and the metal peices it fits on. I thought is was worth it just to have a spare on ready to go. There are aftermarket peices avaibile, just the foam part, $14.95.

Where do you get the foam part?? that's what I need.

Yes, the complete unit is expensive and, or, you can get just the foam element for a lot less... either from the dealer or many websites.

On a related issue... Do you have the foam piece that is glued to the top, or basically the ceiling, of the airbox?? I think that when you slide the complete air filter (foam element and metal frame) into the air box, the filter unit is supposed to "squeesh" that foam piece up into the ceiling making a kind of seal. The one in my in my '80 850 was basically disintegrating.

So, got some foam door insulation stuff approx 1/2"X1/2" strips... and glued it to the top of the filter frame. Trying to copy what the original set-up was. Except now the "squeeshy" foam gasket was stuck to the top of the filter, instead of to the ceiling of the airbox.

Do you all think that this is OK??
Is there a better idea??
Is this common??
Can I get a new airbox that would have that foam already stuck on the cieling??

Greg, from what I've read most of us go the Weather Stripping route. I got some of the same and adhesive and made a square out of my it on top of the metal of the filter elment itself. Works great with the new foam replacement. Most of us go this route since it's easier to mount it on the element before placing it in the box.

Yes, weather stripping, that's what I used. If there's any other suggestions about this or what is the history that is going on here, with the original suff falling apart... I'm alway interested.

But if I did allright, and it's as simple as that... Then cool !!

My 80 GS850G airbox needed the foam on top of the filter "cage", I was frettin' not seein' the foam in the bikebandit airbox list, then searched this forum and found the answer - best part I had the weatherstipping sitting on my shelf and didn't put it together..thanks guys.

Now where can I get the rubber seals for the chrome airbox covers - mine are distorted - guess I'll use silicone.

Yes, I want to know the Suzuki part numbers for the rubber seals for the airbox covers too! :shock: :confused:
 
Put some saran wrap over the end of the airbox. Put a good bead of silicon in the chrome cover. Install the covers -- DO not tighten let cure for 24 hours
CLean up any excess and you are all set
