A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Overall a very good bike. Kawasaki used that same engine in their police bikes all the way to 2005 - so a 25 year run isn't bad huh...

There's not much out of the ordinary to watch for. They are strong, solid engines, with a heavier frame than the earlier Z1's.

A friend of mine has a pristine J model that I've spent some time on. He's been offered a chunk of money for it but won't let go of it. It really does run and falls only a wee bit short of what an 1100E does. It is a very solid bike and IMO, is second to the Z1 in my book as far as desireability goes.

The guy has had for 10 years and sounds like he has taken care of it. I'm crossing my fingers its decent. 102 HP at the crank he told me. Selling it because he bought a KZ1300.

Thanks for the feedback Guys, I like this other bike forum.:)

Personally, I'd love to find a nice 1000J, partly because they are a great bike, but also partly because Kawasaki guys don't seem as cheap as GS'ers. We bring down the value of our rides because we are so cheap around here.

Haha...if you do buy it I will give you my buddies info. He restored the bike to it's present condition. And it is a beautiful bike!!

It takes 4 things to make more power; pods, pipe, Stage 3 jet kit and a good tune. The last being the most important of all.

Somewhere I have a test of one of those. Cycle I think. It was quite positive. Way better handling and suspension than previous versions. Better than a GS1000E maybe except for comfort. I worked with a guy who had a KZ1000MKII that was all superbiked out back in the day. Big PM brakes, tall shocks, stripped frame and no rear fender. I liked that too.

Jesus, there's some REAL inspiration for my own project right there.

Doubt I can get THOSE results though. Lots of $/time in polishing and chrome on that one.

Found a Cycle magazine test of the J and within they state...

Once the fork is dialed to 13 psi and the shocks jacked to position No. 4 for both the seven-position preload and five position damping, the Z-l will even attack racetracks without hesitation The crucible of Willow Springs Raceway's Turn Eight, a full bore, top-gear right-hander, failed to uncover any flaws in the J model KZ1000 but for a little rear-end imprecision. If you deliberately upset this bike it bobbles more than a GS1000, but up until that point the handling is world-class, a fine balance of quick responses and highspeed cornering stability.

Thanks Guys for the great responses, great article ED. The bike has 50K miles on it and a 4 into 1. He had it for 10 years and rode it all season long. He is asking 1900.00 for it, will try and get it for 1500 if its a good runner with no major issues.

Cheers

John
