DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

nice forum, bin lurking awhile.

i bought a 1983 gs1100E in great shape, when i bought it the battery dummy light was on. it turns off and on once in awhile, yesturday i began getting ruff idle and it wants to stall. also the exhast note changed, sounding almost like a boxer 4 engine. but it only sounds like this when cruising (not much stress) when you twist your rist it all feels great. when blimping the throttle i noticed a poping, checked the plugs and there all running just alittle on the lean side. now could this be a carb problem or does the battery light have something to do with it? is there some i should check? thanks for any help.

btw - its completly stock, 20k miles.

The battery light is suppose to indicate low battery acid level...shouldn't have anything to do with a rough idle or changed exhaust note.

well, filled the battery up and it solved my problems. but i think its time for a new one. thanks.

:D

Just for grins and giggles you may want to go to the Stator pages here
http://thegsresources.com/garage/gs_statorfacts.htm
These bikes have the bad habit of losing both the Stator and Regulator/Rectfier over time. These little buggers will cause havoc with your charging system.
Not to say this will happen to you but worth a head's up.

When you change the battery, you can save $$$ by doing away with the sensor light, just get a regular battery

That was an easy fix. Not sure it makes sense to me though. :?
Possible incorrect voltage to the coils because of the low level? I know my friends Harley was backfiring and eventually would stall and die during our rides. Twice, we put in a new battery and it seemed fine for awhile. Then we later had more problems and it turned out to be a reg/rec problem and the battery was over-heating from the voltage being too high. A new reg/rec fixed it permanently.
Just to be sure, I would test your reg/rec and make sure it's working right.

It's not an indication of charging. It's like a check engine light for the battery. Battery need service!

I just reused the old sensor. How do you delete the sensor? I seem to remember someone saying the sensor lead should be grounded.
