Forgive me for my ignorance. I have not much experience with the GS. The outside cylinders are not firing, no spark. The inside 2 are working well. Any suggestions? It was a barn find, 36k miles

I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.
There are two ignition coils under gas tank. The one on left (as you sit) fires the two outside spark plugs- #1 plug is extreme left under clutch lever. and #4 is extreme right. Firing is trigered by a set of signal coils that tell an ignitor module which ignition coil to fire and when. Connectios between electrical stuff is often a problem

Yes mostly vintage BMW & Motoguzzi and an occasional metric bike. Thank you for your insight. I was just looking for a place to start. I thought it may be a common problem.
A good place to start is to check the voltage at the coil, which is the orange and white wire at the coil. It needs to be somewhere around 12 Volts when the engine running, more importantly both coils should be about the same. If your non working coil is at a low voltage find out why..
The most common problem is corrosion in the wiring, if left unchecked expensive parts start to fry. Corroded connections make heat, the insulators melt, the wires short out and now you have a much bigger problem.
This is even more of a problem with the charging system. Please go through all of this electrical stuff before you start riding very far. These are extremely reliable machines, but only if things like this are taken care of.
