    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

83 750 intake boot leak???yambond???

I plan on replacing my intake boots this winter one of them you can turn it a little bit with the clamp tightend up so with a new clamp and i know the boots are starting to get hard will a thin coat i mean very thing coat of yambond on the in side where it gose over the carb and the intake on the head ,keep them from leaking for now ???
 
No, this will not work at all.

The goop will quickly dissolve in the hot gasoline vapor environment and you're back to square one, plus you've run bits and pieces of Yamabond through your engine. Probably not good.

Intake boots MUST be replaced when they begin to leak. They cannot be repaired bith Yamabond, JB weld, silicone, Elmer's glue, llama spit, or roofing tar. This is something every old motorcycle owner needs to do once. Replace them so you can forget about this problem for another 23 years.

And replace them immediately -- intake leaks do ugly, expensive things to exhaust valves and cylinder heads. Very ugly. #-o

If it's an "E" model, the boots should be about $23 each from Bike Bandit. I'd also get 8 of the OEM clamps. They are about $3 each if I remember right. Sounds expensive, but it's worth it.
 
I plan on replaceing them as soon as i have some cash .Iwas not going to get the stuff on the inside just on the lip of the boot i have used this stuff on my oval race sled between the boots and machined spacer . Have not had a problem yet with it .It is used to seal crank cases on sled's and it gets exposed to heat and gas, just wondering if any one used it for a fix untill you get new boots.
 
Brian, you're a hoot. Great shambling gallout who rides his bike way too fast. I'll never forget that one.
