A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i bought the bike a couple of months ago...27.000 miles....been riding the bike for a commute of 32.6 miles each way pretty much every day...one day, my last riding day since, after riding home i had exited the freeway and at the stop light it stops!...ok..push buttons..turn key, swear, nothing ..no clicking not any noise at all, swear again,...lights on, oil, headlight, kick stand etc. fixed poor hot battery lead...replaced relay switch?...the one attached to the battery box...checked fuses..i plan on really cleanning the fuse holder. I have limted elec test eqip..not much more exp with elec...any sugggestions on a path to follow.? alos has a problem with blowing tail/brake light bulbs.
the ultamite would be a complete rewire...but what can i try short of that..I still have good wheather to ride in and i'm ready to go.....

my 850 had a bad starter. it would start fine, drive, warm up and then it'd sometimes cut off unexpectedly. mostly i turned it off, but it stalled once or twice. anyway, after it was shut down it wouldn't start for about an hour. turned out to be a bad starter. when i took the old starter and bench tested it, it sounded like there was gravel in there, really rough. hope this helps.

About the only equipment you need is a volt-ohm meter and maybe a test light. A wiring diagram is pretty much essential when troubleshooting electrical problems. On bikes of this age, you need to check for corrosion, burned connectors and poor grounds. I would remove the headlight and starting in the headlight bucket, disconnect and clean every connector. Work your way back to the rear of the bike. It's best to get a comfortable chair and set aside a few hours of quiet time to do this. Basically check every electrical connection and switch to make sure all is clean and tight.
I wouldn't be surprised if your problem disappeared.

yup, that is what i plan to do tomorrow....um..were is the high beam switch? i haven't needed it but i cann't locate it either...

I will check the starter, but when the bike stopped it has not even given a hint of starting...

Left hand control switch that activates the directionals. Up is low beam down is high beam. I ride the same exact bike. :D

Have you checked voltage at the battery yet. It sounds like you may be in for a good read of the Stator Papers, as well.

STATOR PApERS IN HAND...looks like home work tonight...love the bike when it ran it ran strong and fast...IT WILL run again! as we speak i'm loosing great riding wheather... THANKS
