    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

83 GS 750 E problems

Hello Everyone

I have an 83 GS 750 E that I am trying to get back on the road after 6 years. I put in new plugs, new gas, cleaned the carbs (4 mikuni bs32ss). The bike will start when I fully choke it and will idle, but as soon as I put it in gear it trys to roll but then dies. I jacked up the back end and put it in gear and it will stay running with the wheel turning in the air but put it on the ground and it dies. All 4 cylinders are running. Please help short riding season is getting shorter everyday.

It sounds as though it may be something as simple as your clutch. Perhaps you need to adjust the cable since it's probably not fully engaged when you pull in the lever. If that's the case, you'll be riding in the wind today! I hope that's it because that's an easy fix!:-D

I was actually going to try that this morning as we found it in the service manual late last night. Here's hoping!!!!
 
First thing I'd do is make sure your clutch plates are not sticking together. Put the bike in second gear with the engine off, pull in the clutch and try to push the bike. If the clutch is stuck it won't move. If the clutch is really stuck you might have to try to bump start the bike to get it free.
 
Ok I have adjusted clutch cable according to OEM service manual. Now the bike will not start. Help!!!!

there may be a clutch lever cancel switch. make sure to pull the clutch in when you hit the starter...
 
it cranks but no fire and I am pulling clutch. bike sat overnight with battery charger on and it rained so I am wondering if maybe something is wet.
 
i'd think if it charged, it cranks, and all the lights come on, then the ignition system is to blame. might want to check if you have spark by pulling a plug and seeing if it'll arc to the block when you hit the starter. chances are the spark is arching from water somewhere around the wire boot or plug area
if you don't have a plug socket handy, pop a phillips screw driver, carefully, into a removed plug wire and hold it to the block while cranking. not graceful but it should arc without zapping you through the drivers handle. you might get a little shock but that's half the fun!
 
How thoroughly did you clean the carbs, when you sprayed cleaner into all the little passageways, did it come out somewhere else? put your clutch adjustment back to where it was, it started and ran with the previous adjustment. So now It is probably dragging too much. Did it freely rev once you got if off the choke, or did you never take it off the choke? If it did not freely rev, then You should revisit your carbs. are you sure that when you reinstalled the carbs, the boots were in good condition, and that the orings were all in good shape. put it on the center stand and pull the clutch lever with it in Neutral and try to start it, it won't crank if the clutch switch is not working.
